Every bookworm has been there. You just finished a really good book, but now you’re ready to move on to the next one. But which one? You look at that large stack of books you haven’t read yet, an obvious candidate. The question is, which one do you pick? So you sit and struggle for a bit, arguing with yourself about which one, and then you make your decision. You pick up the Hunger Games and read it for the 3rd time instead. And that's okay! Here’s why rereading your favorite books is always a good choice.
1. You already know it’s going to be a good book
You aren’t going to regret reading it, because you’ve already read it. You loved it the first time and the wonderful thing about books is that they don’t ever change. Who knows, you might even love it more than you did the first time around!
2. You get to pick up on little details you missed the first time reading it
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ve read the Harry Potter series 3 times. Each time I read it I discovered certain details I didn’t know about the last time I read it. I always forget about the final Quidditch match in Prisoner of Azkaban and how intense it is. By the end of the chapter my heart is pounding and my face is inches from the page wanting to know what happens next, even though I know what happens. It’s the little things.
3. You fall in love with characters all over again
There’s nothing like a beautifully written character. You have no idea what they look like (unless they already made a movie out of it) and you can’t stop thinking about just how cute they are. Going back to the beginning and watching their character develop is like watching your baby grow up all over again. I’m not crying… you are!
4. It’ll keep you busy
Whether it’s a trilogy or it’s got 20 sequels, you will always have a book to follow up the 1st, and it’ll keep you busy for a while. The more books in the series, the less amount of time you have to worry about deciding what book to read next! The next book is just right there! Just remember to always buy/borrow the whole series at once. You don’t want to finish a book at 1 am with a crazy cliff hanger and not be able to pull out the next one right away (trust me I’ve been there, it’s agony having to wait).
5. Because why not!
There’s really no downside. It’s a good book with amazing characters and you get to feel the happiness all over again (or maybe the painful, but beautiful sadness). Sure, you could be spending your time reading a new book, but they aren’t going anywhere. A good book is like a good friend. You don’t just hang out with it once and ditch it for someone new. That’s just wrong. Every book deserves love.
