5 Reasons My Guitar Is My Boyfriend

There’s no denying that as a musician, if you don’t have a special relationship with your instrument, there’s something wrong with you. Or maybe there’s just something wrong with me. Growing up in a musical family, I’ve always been surrounded by guitars with names and personalities to go with them. And then, of course, came the day when I purchased my very own guitar. This guitar was nothing like the first guitar I had that my parents had bought for me. He was mine and he was perfect and his name is Steve. Call me crazy all you want, but here are just a few reasons my guitar is my boyfriend.

1. We Have the Same Music Taste

Okay, so maybe he doesn’t exactly have a choice. But whatever music I’m feeling like playing, Steve is always down for it too. It doesn’t matter if I don’t play it perfectly or if it’s country, rock, or pop; he’s always down to sing along with my every jam.

2. He Doesn't Have a Bad Side

Why would I want a boyfriend when I can take pictures with my beautiful guitar? Steve looks good in every picture no matter what and therefore makes me look better. What more can a girl ask for? I don’t know about you, but I’d say #relationshipgoals.

3. He's Always There for Me

We all have our rough days. And we also have those days where we can’t stop smiling and we don’t know what to do about it. No matter the mood, Steve is just a strum away to letting me get out all of my thoughts and feelings.

4. He Knows Just What to Say

He knows when to listen and when it’s time to speak up. He’ll let me strum my heart out and let me sit there in silence as I think about life. He’s the perfect companion who never says the wrong thing.

5. He's My Home Away From Home

Being at college, sometimes I get a little homesick. Luckily, Steve is always right at my bedside reminding me that even though home is a little too far away, I have a piece of it right here with me.

Here’s to four years and many more to come.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
