A lot of people have mixed feelings when it comes to gardening — some tend to always kill their plants while others have a major green thumb. Whether you're great at keeping plants alive or haven't had such luck, they're a nice thing to have around the house. So even if you kill a cactus, here are five reasons you should give house plants a go.

1. The liven up a room

Wall hanging, pictures and other miscellaneous decorations are great and definitely give spaces character, I've found that nothing perks them up like house plants. The houseplants colors and liveliness they give off add just a little *something* that nothing else can. It's also really nice when people compliment you on them (because you worked really hard to keep them alive.)

2. They make a good hobby

Finding new plants to pot is always fun — it might seem dull to some people, but figuring out what new flower or succulent will go with the ones you already have is sort of exciting. Also, painting and decorating pots for your plants to go in is a fun craft. Overall gardening and indoor gardening is a good way to relive stress.

3. You can make truly home cooked meals

There are plenty of fruits and vegetables that make good indoor plants. Some of these include sweet potatoes which make good vines and pineapples can be indoor plants as well as long as they get enough light. Some food producing house plant (like the pineapple) also bloom very pretty flowers. Some flowers, such as lavender, can even be used to make teas.

4. They can purify the air

Plants release oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide (as I'm sure you already knew.) In addition to making the air fresher, this can also eliminate harmful toxins. Plants such as orchids, snake plants, bromeliads, and succulents emit a good amount of oxygen at night, which make them good for your bedroom.

5. Keeping them healthy makes you proud

It's known that not everyone is great at keeping plants alive, but it's really not that hard if you can stick to a schedule. Just water your plants at the same time every day, or every other day, or even once a week depending on what kind you have. Doing this and keeping them alive and well will make you a little bit proud of yourself. You'll get to see your plant grow and this makes you feel like if you can keep your plants alive you can keep yourself alive...maybe.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
