So I recently had the pleasure of seeing the new movie-musical, The Greatest Showman, and my life has been forever changed. The broadway lover in me found the musical absolutely incredible, but seeing it larger than life on the big screen made it somehow feel all the more real. If you haven't seen this movie yet, here are five reasons why you need to hit up Fandango immediately.
1. The MUSIC THOUGH.
The Greatest Showman soundtrack has all the makings of a broadway sensation with a sweet modern pop twist that will generally appeal to everyone. "Come Alive" will make you feel like you're sitting in the theater watching Kinky Boots while Zac Efron and Zendaya's duet "Rewrite the Stars" could be blaring on the radio during a road trip. Each of the eleven songs on the soundtrack has its own unique vibe, so there won't be any that you want to skip past.
2. Hugh Jackman singing through cancer.
Hugh Jackman underwent a procedure to remove skin cancer during the greenlighting process of the movie and was warned not to sing. Musical theater legend Jeremy Jordan filled in for him, singing all of the songs, until "From Now On" started, and Jackman was so overcome with the power of the song that he belted out the lyrics and broke his stitches, not noticing that he was bleeding until the song was over. Now that is dedication to character.
3. Troy Bolton living on.
Just because Zac Efron has gotten older doesn't mean that his Troy Bolton-isms are any less apparent in his performances. In one scene when running towards Zendaya, you can easily notice Zac doing Troy's signature "hop skip run" proving to all the High School Musical fans that Troy Bolton's legacy is everlasting.
4. The cinematic glory.
This movie is absolutely stunning to watch. Every shot was so meticulously perfected and flows with such energy onscreen. The use of such vibrant lighting and color makes the show feel so much more alive, almost as if it were playing out before your very eyes, but also almost so vivid it becomes surreal.
5. The story about finding your family and loving yourself.
The plotline of The Greatest Showman is so utterly heartfelt, about P.T. Barnum trying to do right by his family and about his talented cast of performers finding a family of their own in each other, and being brought into the light for the entire world to see. You'll be crying from the beginning to the end, I promise.
