We all know college is better than high school. You have the freedom to pick your classes, make your own decisions, and are exposed to a wide variety of new people, places, and experiences. Here are my favorite things I have experienced in college that I wasn't able to in high school.
1) You don't have to eat the gross cafeteria food
If you don't feel like going to the cafeteria, you can easily leave campus and go get lunch at any place you want, without any security guards hunting you down.
2) You are ALWAYS meeting new people
Whether you are a freshman or a senior, you are always meeting new people. Every year more and more students transfer in, and there are so many new faces in college that there will always be someone you don't know, unlike high school when you were stuck with the same kids since kindergarten.
3) You don't have to be "popular" to go out
In high school, you only got to go to parties if you knew the right crowd. In college, everyone is invited, no matter who you are.
4) There are so many more opportunities to get involved on campus
In high school, you either played a sport, were in chorus or band, or were in one of the ten clubs the school offered. In college there are SO many opportunities. First of all, college has intramural sports and club sports, so you don't need to be a stellar athlete to participate. The variety of clubs in college is incredible, you would honestly be surprised at the types of clubs students come up with. Finally, Greek Life is another great way to become involved on campus, that high schools don't offer.
5) You're actually taking classes you are interested in
Instead of the same old math, English, social studies, and science every year, you actually get to choose classes that interest you and will be useful to you in the future. It's also very exciting to learn about new material. My favorite class I've taken in college so far was probably psychology of the exceptional child. It was very interesting to learn about all different kinds of disabilities in children- something I never would have learned about in high school!
Although college is obviously great in the sense that you're on your own for the first time and away from your parents, it's also much better than high school even if you chose to commute to school. Many commuter students feel like they are just entering, "13th grade", and that they are just going to a glorified high school. Even community colleges and commuter schools are much more enjoyable and interesting than high school, so don't feel so sad that you're graduating!
