The stigma on the word "townie" does not hold high regard on college campuses. Many people associate townies with those who were too timid to venture beyond their hometown, or would miss their family too much. In reality, being a "townie" isn't all that bad and here's why:
1. You can go home to a real, home-cooked meal any time you want.
Dining courts are great, or at least they can be, but knowing that your favorite home-cooked meal from your mom is less than an hour away is worth the drive home even if you don't want to admit it.
2. You don't have to do your own laundry (because your mom misses you that much).
Also, who actually knows how to do their laundry well? Moreover, who really enjoys doing it? My best guess is nobody. Knowing that your favorite shirt won't shrink in the wash or that it won't get lost amongst the hundreds of over students' clothes is one amazing feeling.
3. You don't embarrass yourself turning the wrong direction on all the one-ways.
Navigating your way around campus can be stressful, but knowing which roads are one-ways and which ones aren't saves you a lot of time and, more importantly from being incredibly embarrassed.
4. You already know the best off-campus places to get good food, drinks, clothes, movies, you name it.
When everyone is scrambling to find new clothes for spring break or a healthy restaurant for once, you already have these places in the back of your mind. Plus, it's always nice to go out and not see everyone from class.
5. If you forget your favorite sweater at home, it's not a pain to go grab it.
This is probably the best part...it's inevitable to forget something you love from home when you leave for school. Having the ease of driving back home instead of worrying about your parents shipping your forgotten item or settling to just buy a new one is a great perk.
