Usually, people are thrilled about the Olympics but this year I have heard more people talking bad about them than usual. Most people I have heard, write it off as being lame because a lot of the sports are based on judges scores rather than competition or the fact that most of the time they have no idea whats going on. Curling is the worst, I will give that to you but there are plenty of other events that are suspenseful, exciting, and downright beautiful. These are the top five things that make the winter Olympics worth watching.
1. Alexa Scimeca and Chris Knierim.
Okay, can we talk about how cute they are?! Usually, figure skating pairs are not married. You see a lot of siblings and even close friends who have teamed up to skate but a married couple on the ice is a rare sight but here we have one and they're the cutest and not to mention amazing at figure skating. This year, they've struggled a bit in the pairs short event, but their adorableness makes up for it.
2. Shaun White.
I have loved Shaun White for as long as I can remember. He's been the epitome of cool and I wanted to be him. As a ginger, I thought he owned his red hair and I wanted mine to be as cool as his. The fact that he's amazing at skateboarding AND snowboarding just make his cool factor go up. He won gold in the halfpipe already this week, but you can probably still see his fiery red hair on the slopes a little more.
3. JH Klaebo
JH Klaebo is a cross-country skier from Norway and he's taking the cross country world by storm. I was watching his event the other night and the announcers kept saying that he was "the Lebron James of skiing." I figured he had to be pretty good if they were saying that about him and after watching his event I can say that they had a good reason. He. Is. So. Fast. He finished an easy five seconds before the next Olympian.
4. Chloe Kim.
I am obsessed with her. You might have missed her events but you can totally check out some of the super entertaining replays. She won gold in the women's halfpipe freestyle and was the first woman in the history of the event to score a perfect 100 and only the third person in the history of the sport to do it. She qualified for the Sochi games in 2014 but was kept from going because she was only 13 at the time. Now at the young age of 17, she's making history.
5. Lindsey Vonn.
Lindsey Vonn has already established herself as a groundbreaking skier in past Olympics and Winter X- Games and this year is expected to be no different. Vonn has Olympic gold and bronze medals already under he belt but is back for more this year skiing the women's downhill and the women's combined. GO, GIRLS!!!
All that being said, you should totally start watching the winter Olympics because we won't see any more Olympic events until 2020 and no winter events until 2022. There are still expected to be a lot of riveting events in the next couple weeks so make sure that you get your Olympic fix!
