College is a time for meeting new people and breaking out of your shell. It's both a new and exciting experience filled with countless life lessons. Many of which depend on the different types of people you meet your freshman year. Together, all these people have in common one thing: they make a significant impact on your life even if you just cross paths for a short time.
Here are five influential people I met freshman year, and what I learned from them.
1. The party animal.
It doesn't matter what day of the week it is, to the party animal it's always Friday night and it's always 5 p.m. somewhere. Accompanied with a bottle in hand, you can usually find them between the late hours of 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. stumbling back to their dorm from a party. The party animal taught me that it's okay to go out and have fun, but don't overdo it.
2. The overachiever.
This person never settles for anything less than an A, and is always the first one to raise their hand at any opportunity for extra credit. You can often find them studying in the library or making flash cards for the upcoming chem test. The overachiever taught me that academics are very important, but don't stress yourself too much over a bad grade.
3. The slacker.
If you happen to sit next to this person in class, you'll often hear this person ask you, "was that due today?" surprised they were even in class to begin with. You can find them in their bed sleeping until noon, or ordering Domino's for the fifth night this week because they are too lazy to walk down to the dinning hall. The slacker taught me that it's okay to skip class and take a mental health day every once in awhile.
4. The couple.
I categorize the couple as one person because they are always together. They even made their class schedules identical so they will never be apart for more than 15 minutes. They can often be spotted on your floor's common room all over one another not caring if anyone sees. The couple taught me that it may be nice to have a significant other, but you can't revolve your entire world around them.
5.The mom.
This person is the one who takes care of everyone when their sick, whether it be the common flu or after a night out. They are the one everyone goes to and asks for advice and the one they can always count on to help them through a bad day. They are there to pick you up back up when you fall. You can most likely find them comforting their friend who is going through a bad breakup. The mom of the group taught me that no matter how bad a day is, it will always get better.
