5 Of The Best Restaurants In Dallas, Texas
Dallas

I live in Dallas, Texas. I grew up in Dallas. I love Dallas. I also love the food because who doesn't? While Dallas has much of what other cities probably have, there are a few places here in my hometown that I am most positive other cities do not have or if they do - the ones in Dallas are much better. I mean you know what they say, everything is better in Texas.

1. Donuts-N-Coffee (located on the street corner of Westmoreland Rd and Illinois)

Or as my family has dubbed it, 'The Donut Place'. I have grown up with The Donut Place since, well as long as I can remember and believe me when I say these are the best donuts ever. Ever. Everyone and their grandma lose their underwear over Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' Donuts however, they don't have anything over The Donut Place. The donuts here are fresh and if you get there early enough, you get them hot and you can bite through it like butter and when I say they melt in your mouth - they melt in your freaking mouth. I'm a glazed donut girl myself but I do not be surprised if you see my cheat on the glazed donuts with any of its chocolate or sprinkled siblings because I will not be guilty about it.

2. Shamrock Gas Station Tacos (located on the street corner of Jefferson and Gilpin)

Or what my family has also dubbed it, 'Gas Station Tacos'. Another food place I have grown up with and another place where I will say have the best tacos. Also the place where I didn't know the name of the gas station until now because it was also the place of getting tacos rather than gas. Dallas is quite Hispanic-based so it might be good for one to know at least a bit of Spanish to make things a little smoother for your visit and also this means there are a lot of places to acquire tacos and at this point I have pretty much tried them all. I love tacos in all shapes and sizes however the Gas Station Tacos are my favorite and while they are not exactly on the cheaper side, they bring my stomach a multitude of happiness. My family likes to get the fajita tacos with corn tortillas but when we're feeling crazy we get the flour tortillas. My sisters and I also love squeezing a little, well a lot, of lime juice from the limes they give us onto the tacos with a dash of green or red salsa also given with the tacos. The place looks a little sketchy but go inside, order some tacos, and be happy - you're safe, I promise. I mean, as long as you get the tacos.

3. Ton's Mongolian Grill (technically in Grand Prairie but whatever)

I didn't go to this beautiful restaurant until about two years ago but I knew of it for years before that. I'm not one to try new places because I enjoy the norm but am I glad to have found this place. I'd like to describe this as a place with noodles at the base of your self served bowl and the rest of the world of food is your oyster. Basically, you start at the beginning of a self serve station, like at a Pizza Hut, but you start with meat - raw meat. You have an array of choice from beef, chicken, shrimp, crab legs, fish etc. Then you move down the line and add all kinds of vegetables to your hearts content until you get to the noodle tray. You top everything with the also raw noodles and move on to the oils such as hot, spicy, oil, sesame oil, soy oil and so on. You get to the end of the line with a large round grill with the cooks there cooking your food right in front of you. It's an interesting feat to see in person and watch them cook your food, as they flip your bowl over, with the noodles now at the bottom, the base, and your meat on top until it is all cooked and delicious. Go, if you're ever in the area, you won't regret it.

4. Herrera's Cafe (located on the street of Illinois)

You will catch me at this restaurant whenever I have the money until the day I die and while I don't have the money as much as I'd like, this restaurant is the best. Of course this is another food place I have known this I was young, a place I have pretty much grown up with - a place that raised me. I used to have birthday dinners here every year - not because I didn't have anywhere else to go but because I didn't want any other place to go. It's almost like the average Tex-Mex restaurant but it's not at the same time. I get my usual order of 13B which is a plate of beef enchiladas with beans and rice every single time I go and of course their hot sauce is to die for, also because it is too hot to eat without some form of liquid to help put a damper on the heat that is taking residence in your mouth. If anything, go for the hot sauce and chips for me.

5. Metro Diner

Everyone knows of IHOP and Waffle House as the breakfast restaurants that are open 24/7 but if you're looking for new scenery and a relaxed environment, I recommend Metro Diner. We all have that sudden food craving at three AM, don't deny it and when you do, it's pretty much only fast food, IHOP or Waffle House. Metro Diner is like both places in one. They both serve breakfast and burgers, two foods I enjoy thoroughly, among other things. The service is quick, they have quirky signs all over their walls, and they have a juke box. Also the pricing isn't so bad so why not bring some friends and hang out at three in the morning?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
