A new year often marks the beginning of a "new and fresh" start for many people. Many of those same people are guilty of making new year's resolutions and not sticking to them. We hear people say how "unrealistic" and "annoying" new year's resolutions are. I agree with that statement, because you will hear so many people talk about how they are going to change once the new year begins, but by the time the end of January rolls around, people are back to their old habits. I am guilty of doing that as well. Lately, I have been thinking about how I can better myself in this upcoming new year and new decade. What I have realized is that resolutions need to be made not for only a temporary time, but for a life time. Here are what I think are some realistic new year's resolutions that you might actually be able to keep for longer than a month:
1. Spend more time outside.
Spending more time outside can brighten your day no matter how bad of a mood you are in. You can go outside for a little walk or find an open quiet area to sit and read a book if you want.
2. Practice self-care.
Self-care is so important. Taking time for yourself is not selfish at all. Do some yoga or take a hot bath, self-care can be whatever you choose to do.
3. Smile more.
This is so simple. You never know how your smile can positively impact someone's day.
4. Find a hobby you will enjoy.
A hobby can literally be anything you want it to be. Running, playing tennis, shopping, hunting, biking, the options are endless.
5. Be present.
Life is so short. Be more present with spending time with family and friends.
