We've all, at some point or another, seen a pretty tutorial on Pinterest, given it a shot, and wound up with a complete mess of a result. Despite the misleading titles of "easy" and "step-by-step," most Pinterest tutorials leave out whatever witchcraft is necessary to actually create a passable result. But don't sacrifice your firstborn yet! I compiled a list of nail tutorials, field-tested them, and picked out the ones that are actually doable.
1. Gradient Nails
With an end result that looks professional, gradient nails are surprisingly easy. The only thing to keep in mind is that it is necessary to wait until the white coat is completely dry. It also takes quite a few dabs (step 3) to start seeing color show up. If you're patient, gradient nails can have a beautiful outcome!
2. Fan Brushed Nails
As long as you have a spare fan brush laying around, this tutorial is as easy as pie. Just remember to allow your layers to dry in between adding new colors!
3. Interlocking Dots
This particular tutorial takes a bit of practice. It took me two tries to get a result as good as the one in the photo, but even my first try didn't look terribly bad. Again, allowing the layers to dry before adding new colors is vital! Also, in order to do this tutorial you need to have a dotting tool. Dotting tools are rather cheap and can be bought at CVS or anywhere else that sells nail supplies. That's how you can get perfect looking dots.
4. Dripping Paint
In order to do this tutorial, you'll need a thin nail brush or a toothpick and a dotting tool. The brush/toothpick is how the person in the photo was able to make the "dripped paint" lines. As long as you don't put too much polish on the brush/toothpick, it'll look great. The dotting tool is how you are able to get such perfect dots on the end of the "dripped paint" lines.
5. Stripped Nails
All this look takes is cutting up a piece of tape! It's a very simple, clean, and classy look that anyone can pull off. You have to be completely sure that the base coat is dry before putting any tape on it, but as long as you wait enough, the outcome is perfect.
