Five Musts For Fall

Here lies a list I have compiled of the 5 musts for fall-- must haves, must dos, and must drink. These are the 5 things that really make fall special to me, and hopefully to you as well! Fall is the most beautiful time of year, especially in Potsdam-- the leaves are changing color, the air is getting colder and the hours of homework are getting way longer. However, mostly good things are happening, and here is how you can enjoy all of the good things that fall brings even more.

1.Must Watch: Hocus Pocus

This should be obvious because it is the greatest movie of all time, and 'tis the season for it-- but if I’m being honest, I didn’t even know about this movie until I was 16. So have a movie night with the squad, order some pizza and spread the love for "Hocus Pocus"!

2.Must Carve: Pumpkins

I don’t care how old you are or how creative you are not, pumpkin carving is a good time. Maybe you are super creative and you want to create something beautiful and artistic. If not, hacking away at a pumpkin with a knife can be a good stress relief in between piles and piles of homework. Enjoy it however you are able.

3.Must Dress up: for Halloween

Some people go all out for Halloween. If you are one of those people, good for you! If you just like to put a pair of cat ears and that makes you happy, good for you! Do whatever puts you in the Halloween spirit.

4.Must have: Uggs, Sweaters And Scarves

Oh my! Every year I can’t wait for it to be fall so I can take out my Uggs and my sweaters and be completely comfortable (while also looking adorable). For one season, the clothes that are the most enjoyable to wear do not make you look like a bum!

5.Must Eat/Drink/Smell: Pumpkin Spice

Yes, yes, yes! If you don’t like pumpkin spice, I have to believe you are in the vast minority because it is one of the best things ever. If you have not tried one, leave your house immediately and get to your nearest coffee location! If you still don’t like how it tastes, go out and buy a candle, because it smells amazing! There’s nothing like having a pumpkin spice latte on a chilly day to get you ready for Halloween and the whole fall season.

For those of you who may be new to the North Country and are hiding inside in anticipation of our hellish winters, you are right to be scared. However, we have a good couple of weeks left where Potsdam is at its very best, and you should all get out there and enjoy it to its full extent! Go see some live music in the park or go to the Pumpkin Festival. Enjoy it while it’s still safe to be outside!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
