For about the past year, I have been making the initiative to try and make my life as low waste, organic, and cruelty-free as possible. Through this journey, i have found many items that help make this transition as easy as possible. Here are some products that I swear by.

1. Bamboo Toothbrushes

You can purchase a bamboo toothbrush from many different companies and there are many benefits to switching from the plastic toothbrushes. Firstly, these toothbrushes are made from all natural bamboo and contain no extra unnecessary chemicals that your plastic toothbrushes all have. Next, unlike plastic toothbrushes, bamboo toothbrushes are biodegradable. Plastic toothbrushes are one of the most common trash found in the ocean because it takes so long to biodegrade and there is nowhere else for it to go. This easy switch will help with your low waste initiative.

2. Beeswax Wrap

Many people do not consider how much plastic wrap is being thrown away every day and the answer is A LOT. This natural beeswax wrap has the same effect on keeping your food fresh, is reusable, and keeps the earth clean! Overall, spending more money on a reusable wrap rather than one you'll just throw away the next day will help your bank account in the long run.

3. Cruelty-Free Beauty Options

There is one big misconception about the cruelty-free lifestyle and that is that the switch is expensive. Many common beauty lines are cruelty-free (and many aren't) just do your research. If you find you are using a product that tests on animals, do not throw it away until you have used it up. You have already paid for it so wasting it won't help the planet.

4. Makeup Wipes

Makeup wipes are not necessary by any means! Try switching to something natural like coconut oil and water to remove your makeup and if you're missing the wipe, use a washcloth too! I personally enjoy washing my face with my face wash and an electric face cleansing brush.

5. Say "No" to Straws!

One of the biggest sources of waste in our world is our uses of plastic straws. No one really understands how many plastic straws are used and thrown away each day until you stop trying to use them. Switch your plastic straw with a reusable straw and if you're scared it wont get clean like me, invest in a straw cleaning brush! Also, when you're out and about, try to remember to ask for your drink without a straw.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
