With Valentine's Day coming up, it is important to understand the meaning of love. How does your significant other give and receive love? What do you think they really want for this special day out of the year? For those of you who don't spend all of your time studying personalities and profiles of others (shout-out to my fellow psych majors), let me take a minute to explain to you what a "love language" is... using cats.
1. Receiving gifts
For this person, it really is the thought that counts. It's not all about the money you spend. Try picking a flower on the side of the road or writing a thought-out note.
Wait for it... Wait for it... Surprise! I got you... a box!
2. Quality time
The lover of quality time honestly just wants you to sit down next to them. Your phone, television and food are not necessary. Neither are words.
Shh... Just be with me. Let your presence speak... through the watermelon.
3. Acts of service
If your significant other appreciates acts of service, try doing the dishes or vacuuming the floors.
Um, I'm helping, I promise.
Clearly this is for your benefit...
4. Words of affirmation
What is a word of affirmation? A kind word or thoughtful card will do just fine. Encourage your love in all aspects of life to show them you care.
You speak my language!
5. Physical touch
This one does not necessarily mean anything intimate or sexual. It simply means being close. Holding hands or trading small kisses in public are the best way to share affection for this person.
Let me love you! - Fine... Just this once.
So before you go out of your way to buy chocolates or flowers for your significant other, find out how they receive love and act accordingly.
