Friends is an all-time classic tv show that taught us a lot about the bond of friendship lasting through time and what not to do in certain situations. It also represented the fact that it is okay to make mistakes and be your amazing, unique self. The following are 5 of the best life lessons as told by the characters of Friends.
1. We have to get a job
If the thought of working, balancing school along with social life, and all the while maintaining your mental health, makes you want to curl up in bed and sleep forever... you’re not alone. However, getting a job helps us to practice a good work ethic and time management while also finding out what we love and what we are good at.
2. We aren’t always right
Sometimes it is so easy to close our minds in on only our own perspectives and viewpoints, but everyone has different situations and standpoints. If something or someone is different than you, it does not make them wrong. It only adds to the fact that we are our own unique and individual being.
3. Life can be hard
We all feel like Ross at some point in our life in thinking that a sandwich is our singular piece of happiness. It can feel like there’s nothing else going for you, but someone is always pushing for you to succeed.
4. It’s okay to be yourself
When a guy says “wow it must be that time of the month” it makes me want to scream! If our male counterparts experienced what women go through, they wouldn’t be saying a word. Men, if you were bleeding everywhere, you would have an excuse for mood swings and food cravings too.
5. We should think positively about ourselves
We are only human and inevitably make mistakes at some point, (or like all the time tbh) but there is always something to be proud of. Maybe you screwed up a math test, but you aced that psych quiz you studied so hard for. Focus on your accomplishments and don’t dwell on failures. Leave the past in the past and learn from your mistakes for the future!
The underlying message of this article is to be confidently and truly yourself! Don’t be afraid of what other people might say or how they will react because, in the end, everyone is different. That difference sometimes can be misunderstood but that misunderstanding does not invalidate opinions. Life goes on with or without us, so stay in the present and look towards the future. Responsibilities are part of life and we are responsible for loving everyone around us, along with ourselves!
