5 Last-Minute Gifts For Your Favorite Feminist

If you are like me, Christmas shopping gets put off until the very last minute. Getting a gift for your feminist cousin or niece might be a little hard; many gifts that feminists may like are online only. Gifts such as ending sexism and destroying the patriarchy might not be online but may be hard to manage in a week’s time. So what can you get your favorite feminist? Here is a list of last-minute and thoughtful gifts that every feminist will love.

1. Donate in their name.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing donations go to a cause I support. With reproductive rights constantly being chipped away at, a donation to Planned Parenthood is a great place to send a monetary donation. If you do not want to donate money, donating goods to safe shelters and homeless shelters is just as great as donating your money.

2. Volunteer together.

What is more valuable than money? Time. Make plans with your favorite feminist to volunteer by feeding the homeless at a homeless shelter or clinic escorting at a clinic that experiences women being harassed for exercising a constitutional right. Even protesting with your feminist can be an option. There is nothing better than having my loved ones counter-protest by my side and standing up for what is right.

3. Crafts

Nothing says "I love you" like a homemade gift. There are a variety of homemade gifts that you can make. Homemade jewelry, scarfs, buttons and clothing are just a few of the many options. One of my favorite crafts to make is a personalized mug. Check out this tutorial on how to create a feminist mug of your own!

4. Books

What’s a better gift for a feminist than giving her materials to increase her knowledge on the subject? As a feminist, not only do I like to read feminist works for academic reasons, but for pleasure reading as well. Some of my favorites are "Full Frontal Feminism" by Jessica Valenti, "Bad Feminist" by Roxanne Gay and "We Should All Be Feminists" by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

5. Food

Everyone loves food, so this one is always a winner. Not only are you feeding us to keep us alive (it’s sort of needed, if you did not know), but keeping us fueled to spread our feminist agenda. As Gloria Steinem says, “Any woman who chooses to behave like a human being should be warned that the armies of the status quo will treat as something of a dirty joke…she will need her pizza." I cannot confirm or deny if this quote has been changed.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
