5 Food Rivalries America & England Just Can't Agree On

Sorry, but when it comes to food-- America usually does it better.

1. Lay’s v Walkers

One thing we certainly don’t talk about enough is Lay’s chips versus Walkers "crisps." While this is literally the same company, I promise there is a huge difference. While the logo design remains the same, the product is just not quite right. Lay’s chips are a bit greasier and have the perfect “comfort food” feel, but Walkers is light and fluffy. Plus, Walkers has some pretty weird flavors: like Prawn Cocktail… literally why? They even have a Marmite flavor, and for anyone who’s never tried marmite just know it's extremely bitter. When your British friend says “you have to try this” just know that you do not, in fact, need to try that horrendous creation.

2. Pixie Sticks v Mega Rainbow Dust

Alright, I’ll give Britain the dub on this one. Swizzels Mega Rainbow Dust is pure magic. Yeah, we have pixie sticks, but most pixie sticks are tiny paper packages that get clogged up super quickly. The sugar in the package is powdery whereas Mega Rainbow Dust is more crystal-like. The tubes they come in are plastic, which is much more convenient. Plus, they are HUGE. So many shops sell them for like 10 pents which means you can get a crazy large supply of Mega Rainbow Dust for just one measly pound coin that you probably don’t want to carry around with you anyway because it's heavy. (Seriously, haven’t the Brits heard of a bill or note instead of annoying coinage?)

3. Graham Crackers v Digestive Biscuits

Did you know that graham crackers like aren’t really a thing in the UK? So, like, naturally my first question was: “How do y’all make your s’mores?” Turns out they use this thing called digestive biscuits. That doesn’t even sound fun. Basically, they're store-bought cookie things. I feel so bad. I’m over here complaining that I can’t afford an iPhone X and there are literally kids in England who have never had a proper s’more.

4. Hershey's v Cadbury

As a Hershey native, there’s no way I can sit here and say Cadbury is better. While it totally has its benefits, Hershey is a magical experience. I mean, come on, we have our own amusement park. However, Cadbury is much smoother of a chocolate. Hershey, on the other hand, is so sweet and perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth. Listen, to all the Brits out there, the Hershey sold in England doesn’t taste quite right, lads, and I’m not sure what’s up with that. (But they do have Kinder Eggs in England so...)

5. Biscuits and Gravy v Beans and Toast

Why are you putting beans on toast? It’s mostly just kind of bland and not that exciting. Biscuits and gravy, on the other hand, baffles so many British people. What the British don’t understand is that our biscuits are fluffy, buttery goodness, unlike their cookies that they misnamed. So, when we put gravy on our biscuits it’s perfect comfort food that we have dreams about… especially if you’re from the South. But beans and toast is sooo far below biscuits and gravy on the list of foods I’d like to eat after a devastating heartbreak.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
