The holidays are finally here! Many of us look forward to these festive months all year long, and it's definitely a reason to celebrate. As we plan for family get-togethers and holiday bashes, the food and decorations may seem like the top priority. However, themed cocktails are a great way to take the party over-the-top and really impress your guests. Luckily, holiday colors such as red and green are easy to incorporate into our favorite drinks. Here are some ideas to spice up our favorite cocktails this winter:

1. Raspberry and Lime Sangria.

If you haven't made sangria at home before, it's a really fun and easy process that allows you to make a large amount of cocktail for a big group of people. And best of all, it's so delicious. There are tons of sangria recipes online, and you can use almost any fruit for inspiration. However, for a Christmas themed cocktail, raspberry and lime sangria makes the perfect pairing. All you need is:

1 bottle of red wine (your choice; you can also use white if preferred)

2 limes

4 raspberry tea bags

An inch of thyme

4 tbs. low calorie sweetener (Truvia works great)

1 tbs. lemon extract

1 tbs. orange extract

2 cups of cold water

2 cups of boiling water

1 cup fresh or frozen raspberries

First, you want to place the tea bags and thyme in a glass or metal bowl and pour the boiling water over them so it can steep for 5-7 minutes. Then, you can add the sweetener and lime slices. Strain the liquid into a pitcher, leaving the thyme and tea bags out. Add the cold water and wine to the mixture. Lastly, add the lemon and orange extract. Serve over ice with a lime garnish for a red and green festive cocktail.

2. Spicy Holiday Lemonade.

I bet you've never had lemonade with hot sauce. Well, believe it or not, it's actually delicious. The holidays are always about potent spices and aromas, so this cocktail will be perfect for your holiday party. Here's what you need:

1 1/2 cups vodka

1 cup fresh lemon juice

1/2 cup fresh lime juice

1/2 cup honey

2 tsp. hot sauce

1 lemon thinly sliced

1 lime thinly sliced

1 cup Sprite

First, combine vodka, lemon juice, lime juice, honey, and hot sauce in a pitcher. Cover and shake well. Then add ice to the pitcher and add the Sprite. Shake well again. Lastly, pour into glass and garnish with a lemon and lime slice. Pretty easy, right?

3. Ginger Bell Cocktail.

What's more festive than ginger and bells? That's what makes this Ginger Bell cocktail so special. With some bold, forward flavors, this is sure to keep your guests coming back for more. If you're a whiskey lover, this one's for you. This is what you'll need:

2 oz. bourbon

2 springs of fresh mint

1/2 lemon, sliced thinly

2 in. pieced of skinned ginger, chop up thin

1 bottle of ginger beer

In a cocktail shaker, add the bourbon, mint, lemon, and ginger and shake well. Add ice and shake again until the ginger and mint are meddled down. Pour over ice and top off with the ginger beer. Garnish with whatever you want (I suggest more fresh mint).

4. Chocolate Peppermint Martini

Chocolate and peppermint? Count me in. This cocktail is a fun twist on these classic holiday flavors that are sure to be a huge hit. Best of all, they look as good as they taste! Here's what you'll need:

2 oz. Smirnoff Peppermint Twist vodka

1 oz. crème de cacoa

1/2 oz. chocolate liquor

1 oz. cream

Chocolate sauce

Crushed peppermint

Add the ice, cream, and liquors into a shaker and shake well. Strain ingredients into a glass and wet the rim with chocolate sauce and garnish with the crushed peppermint. Enjoy!

Cranberry Prosecco Mojito

Cranberry is a holiday classic and deserves a spot on the cocktail menu. This Cranberry Prosecco Mojito is refreshing and festive. It's also extremely easy to make. All you need is:

1 scoop Ciao Bella Cranberry Prosecco Sorbet

2 oz. white rum

Club soda

5-7 mint leaves

Fresh cranberries

Leave the sorbet at room temperature to soften. Muddle the scoop of sorbet and mint leaves at the bottom of a glass. Add 1-2 shots of rum and stir. Top it off with club soda and garnish with fresh cranberries. Ta-da!

Enjoy the holidays and remember to drink responsibly!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
