A couple of years ago, I began wanting to go on a journey that led to living a happier life. Finally, just in the past 2 months, I have actually started trying to incorporate stuff into my daily life that has helped me reach happiness. Here are a handful of things that are easy to implement into your daily routine (if you're into that sort of thing). Hopefully one or more will work for you, too.
1. Yoga
Seriously. This may sound like a cliche, but it has been the best addition to my life that I have ever made (besides my cats). I suffer from an autoimmune disease, and even when I am only able to do about 10 minutes worth of a yoga video, my joints ease up. Check out Yoga With Adrienne on YouTube for awesome at home practices.
2. Meditation
I have been toying with the idea of meditation for years. However, if you ask anyone, me being quiet--and voluntarily--is not common. It isn't as much that I love to talk, it's that I want to be heard. Daily meditation has helped me realize that living in the present is not just a suggestion gurus make, but a demand. Try downloading the Breathe app on your smart phone. It's free, you can track your emotional progress and you can earn virtual stickers!
3. Art Journaling
Not sure about y'all, but I got bored of just writing out my thoughts onto lined paper. I still use a pen to write some words out, but I have expanded my repertoire: glitter pens, magazine clippings, stickers, glitter glue, water colors, and so much more glitter! I'm not a good painter, nor can I draw or doodle, but I can glue images and collage really well.
4. Forgiving Myself
I have done a lot of bad in my life, but I have done a lot more good. Letting go of my past mistakes, and realizing that my current failures do not define me, has given me the stamina I need to get a move on with my life.
5. Realizing I'm Not Alone
I may live alone, but I am not alone. How annoying and cheesy is that, right? Seriously, though. I am so glad that I know that I can ask for help when I need it, but ultimately I need to know that I can depend on myself. My family and friends rock, and they always have my back. If I need them, I ask. But I know that only I can fix my issues. Allowing for help doesn't mean I'm weak. Watch Tony Robbins' new documentary of Netflix called "I Am Not Your Guru." You'll feel inspired, lifted and exasperated all at the same time.
