It's never too early to start planning for Halloween. Being my favorite holiday, I'm planning on decorating my entire room and apartment this week with some scary stuff... yes, I know it's September.
Halloween is a favorite holiday to many. People love dressing up for the night and being whoever they want to be. It's one night for us to escape mundane reality and live life from a different point of view. However, not everyone wants to spend the big bucks orchestrating the perfect outfit. I mean, the average costume at the big box stores runs for around $50--that's absurd! Luckily, you don't have to spend that much to have a fun and exciting getup. Here are 5 DIY costumes that won't spook your bank account:
1. A Knight in Shining Armor
What better costume to start out on than a knight? If you're feeling especially school spirited this Halloween, Dollar Tree offers a knight's armor chest piece, a helmet, and a sword--and yes, everything is a dollar. Halloween for $3... you can't beat that! You could even give it a Game of Thrones spin if that's what you're into. Charge on!
2. Minnie Mouse
Most of us ladies were most likely Minnie at some point as a kid. But living here in Orlando means that it's always okay to dress up in anything Disney. You can grab some Minnie ears at Walmart for only $7.23! Pair them with an all black outfit and you're good to go!
3. Argh Matey!
Also available at Walmart (we love you, Walmart!) is this cool pirate bandana for only $7.76. Matching this with a plain black tee is the perfect look to spend the night as a Captain. You can normally find black Gildan tees at any craft store for only a few bucks; that'll keep this cool pirate getup right around $10--not bad!
4. Feeling Lucky?
You'll save a whole pot of gold by choosing to be a leprechaun this Halloween. This beard from Party City is only $3.99! Pair it with a green tee and a bead necklace and you'll be ready for some Halloween brews and grubs. You may even get a kiss!
5. A Mobster
You can get this killer mobster hat from PartyCheap for only $2.80. Pair it with one of their light-up cigars for the most convincing look that keeps you way under $10. Remember to, "Never rat on your friends, and keep your mouth shut."
Halloween doesn't have to cost your arm and your leg (unless you're dressing as a zombie). If dressing up isn't normally for you, give one of these cheap and effortless looks a try. And if you're on a budget, that doesn't mean you have to compromise the perfect outfit this year. Don't be afraid to be unique and make up a costume of your own. Happy Halloween everybody!
