My family is a huge fan of nonconventional traditions. We love Christmas but hate the traditional celebration. We have crafted a holiday that suits our cynical, humor-filled family of crazies. Enjoy.
1. Pizza on Christmas Eve
My family spends our Christmas Eve trying to decorate cookies faster than I can eat them while we devour pizza. It's super chill until my mom or I become super controlling trying to make sure every cookie is up to code.
2. A Vegetarian Christmas Dinner
A lot of families cook up a nice turkey, goose, or ham for Christmas. However, since my mom is a long time vegetarian and we all enjoy her thanksgiving remix casserole, no one complains that we eat if for Christmas.3. Trans Siberian and Twisted Christmas
Classical Christmas music is nice, it really is. But listening to Trans Siberian Orchestra and Bob Rivers' Twisted Christmas make Christmas like a million times better. Every year, my family and I go to the Trans Siberian concert (in fact, as I write this, the concert is tonight and for the first time we have FLOOR SEATS!!!) and listen to Bob Rivers on the way there. And if you dont know who Bob Rivers is, just look up 'Teddy the Red-Nosed Senator.'
4. Watching the Christmas Vacation
Definitely one of the least traditional Christmas movies, we watch it the Sunday after Thanksgiving to get in the holiday spirit. It shows how my house is made up of a family of cynics who hate classic Christmas. Go figure.
