5 Christmas Traditions To Start Right Now

If you ask a group of people about their Christmas or holiday traditions, you'll likely get a lot of different answers. While some fondly remember Christmas as a pajama day with just their immediate family, others might think of it as a time for a large, fancy get-together. There's no wrong way to do the holidays! Why not make this Christmas special by starting a brand new tradition?

1. Appreciate the holiday lights.

On Christmas Eve, take a drive around your town to look at all the decorating people have done. It's nice to appreciate all the effort that people put in when stringing up the lights! Not to mention that it's the perfect way to wind down after a busy day visiting family and friends.

2. Have each person make a decoration or ornament.

There are tons of great DIY instructions for holiday decor. Having everyone make something is a great way to create new memories, as well as remind you of those that might not be able to be there in the future.

3. Try out new cookie and hot cocoa recipes.

You never know, you might just find your new favorite recipe! Even if you mess up the results, this can be a lovely way to make memories with your family and friends.

4. Exchange handmade gifts on Christmas Eve.

Handmade gifts can show thoughtfulness without breaking the bank. If you have family that hates how commercialized the holidays are, this might be the perfect way to show them you care.

5. Start up a breakfast tradition.

Nothing says Christmas morning like waking up to the smell of peppermint pancakes! Yum! If your family stayed up late with last minute holiday preparations, show them a little love by waking them up with some tasty holiday-themed breakfast foods.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
