5 Of My Holiday Favorites

What will be in your stocking this year?

There isn’t anything I hate about Christmas. Yes, I wish that the Hallmark movies had a little more production value because one day I may have to sacrifice my artistic integrity for them, but beggars cannot be choosers. In fact, I love the holiday season --like too much. Like my last dollar is asking me why I murder its family after Black Friday too much.

But doesn’t everyone love the holiday season? Besides some iconic Christmas characters, I think that even the worst of people share this international appreciation for December.

And in particular, a few of my favorite things this season:

1. The Gingerbread Latte

First of all, it isn’t an artistic integrity degrading piece unless I add a Starbucks drink. It’s just not. This runs in my veins through the entire month of December. There’s nothing quite like tasting the architecture of a cookie family’s home.

2. The Michael Buble Christmas Album

Don’t act like this isn’t an iconic piece of ART. This album is a bop; I couldn’t care less about his other songs, which are also bops, but this is what gets the people going and keeps the crowds in the mall during the holiday season.

3. Cookie Decorating

My mom gets pretty nitpicky when it comes to this, but never actually participates in the activity. Much like at Thanksgiving, she appoints me as her designated cooking slave and I’m forced to follow her vision. Little does she know, it’s not Christmas without her barking Christmas orders at me. It almost makes me super excited to touch down in Phoenix in a few weeks for my hot Christmas.

4. Holiday Dresses

The glitter, the gold, the reds, the greens, the sequins, it’s the only time appropriate to absolutely go wild with these. There is nothing to much for this time of year. You can never have too many, you can only have too little glitz.

5. Bath and Bodyworks Candles

The holiday ones specifically. One of my roommates brought home a collection of them this past weekend and it was honestly the best day of my life. It is a blessing to have a home that smells like Winter, Flannel, and Cranberry Dreams. Something like that.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
