Choir kids are truly one of a kind. If you have been one at any point in your life you know that there is so much that outsiders just don't understand no matter how hard they try. From the straight posture that you can't seem to undo, to the installed habit of constant humming, a choir kid can be spotted from a mile away. Even though your choir days are behind you, a piece of your heart will always live on the stage. Here are 6 things that all former choir kids know to be true.
1. Your non-music friends think you're practically Beyonce.
You could be the least talented person in the choir yet all of your non-music friends will see you as an icon. Your title as a choir kid gives people the automatic assumption that you must be talented. They don't need to know the truth.
2. You are naturally humming tunes at all times
This is a habit that has been installed into you for life. When you're in choir class, you're singing, and when you're not in choir class, you're pretending that you are.
3. You have learned songs in so many different languages but you don't even know what languages they were.
You are amazed by the fact that you can learn an entire song and not understand one word or even the message that you're singing about. It's even more shocking that in the end, you couldn't even answer the question of what language the song was in.
4. You have mediocre dance skills and impeccable synchronization.
Choir is basically like a sport. If one person is off, everyone else might as well be. There's nothing you dread more than when your teacher decides to get fancy and throw some dance moves in to spice up a piece.
5. You would do (almost) anything to stand in the spotlight one last time.
Now that your choir days are in the past, you would give up anything to take the stage one more time. Nothing compares to the feeling of wowing the audience with a piece that you've been working incredibly hard on.
In high school, going to choir class was always the highlight of your day- it was an escape from the stress of the world. Nothing compares to the friends you made, the moments on stage and the inside jokes you acquired all from being part of the choir community. These one-of-a-kind and unique experiences will stick with you for the rest of your life and you really have no say in that. A part of you will always long for the good old times of soaking in the carefree and enjoyable times in the music room.
