1. It's not what you know it's who you know

Having the right people around you goes a long way in developing yourself as a person. I don’t know what I did to luck out but the people around me whether they were friends of mine, colleagues, and/or family have had my back whenever I needed it and I theirs. They’ve nurtured, guided, and helped me stumble, land, and fall into so many good things in my life that I wouldn’t be the person I am today without them. Having people that want the best for you in life goes a long way in enabling you to achieve your dreams in an efficient and fortuitous manner.

2. Mistakes are a part of life

They are to be acknowledged, learned from, and understood so that one minimizes the chances of repeating it again. Then again, we are humans and we can bang our heads on a door a thousand times and still come up short on the thousand and one.

At the very least, if we move just an inch closer to the doorway instead of the way every time, we will eventually get to the doorway. But the biggest lesson in here is understanding that mistakes are a part of life. In fact, a life filled with perfection can be the dullest thing in the world.

3. Breakfast. Breakfast. Breakfast. Breakfast.

I’m the king of skipping meals. Simply put I don’t like making food. Quite frankly I’d rather do anything else in the world then take 10, 20, or however long it takes to make a meal for myself but skipping enough meals has shown me how erroneous of a mistake that is. Working all day plus going to school and one quickly runs out of energy to do anything but run to the nearest coffee shop to overdose on caffeine.

4. Life is short

Take time out of your busy day to speak to a loved one on a daily basis. Just choose one person a day to call and just talk. I lost the amount of times that one of my friends appreciated this simple gesture. We’re humans. We like to socialize and engage with each other.

However, in this world, the more tech savvy we become, the less we seem to behave as people and the more isolated we become. Try this with one of your friends or relatives tomorrow and see the sheer amount of good vibes you get when you share your day openly with each other.

5. In the vein of life is short, take time for yourself

Simply taking ten or 20 or even a thousand seconds out of your day and fully appreciating everything that surrounds you in that moment goes a long way in calming your fidgety mind while simultaneously admiring the sheer awesomeness of being a living breathing thing in this world. Not only a living breathing thing but a living breathing thing that is self-aware.

This one has been a life-changer for me. I’m too preoccupied in my head a lot but whenever I meditate or just observe everything around me, including me, I realize how incredibly astonishing it is that we are alive.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
