I admit that I have a problem. Ever since sixth grade I have developed a growing addiction to books. Not only have I run out of room on my bookshelf, but as a future teacher, I also have a growing collection of children's books for my future classroom library. I decided today that I would talk about some books that I loved reading and that I hope you'll love just as much as I did.
1. Mars One - Johnathan Maberry
If you know me, you know that I love space and since I will sadly never make it to space I love to read about it. This book is about the first generation of people that are chosen to colonise Mars and about their mission, Mars One. Even though the main character, Tristan, has always known that he would once be leaving earth forever, he still ended up falling in love with Izzy. This book is a sweet romance but also a climactic thriller when everyone aboard Mars One finds out that an anti-Mars terrorist is aboard the ship.
2. The Program series- Suzanne Young
This book is based in the future where they are focused on eradicating depression and suicide in a very controversial way. Teenagers live in a world where crying and having any negative emotions are dangerous and could get her sent away. The Program is a process where they take the depressed teenager and wipe their mind of all memories except the basic ones (walking, talking, riding a bike). The person's family is then no longer to have contact with their loved one after their mind is cleaned. What happens when people begin to disagree with the program and search to find its deepest darkest secrets? Can someone outsmart the program?
3. I Like Him, He Likes Her- Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
This book is technically 3 books in one in a 24 book series but you can pick up wherever you want. This series is based on Alice McKinley's life and more specifically, her years in high school. Read through the telling of Alice's life and follow her everyday boy, friend, and family struggles as she tries to navigate her way through the rough high school years.
4. The Maximum Ride Series- James Patterson
This is my all time favourite book series and I cannot express how much I love it. It is about six orphans with no home or families who have the ability to fly but the twist is, they don't know where they came from, why they or different, or who is trying to hunt them down and why but what they do know is that they are either here to save mankind or destroy it.
5. Every Last Word- Tamera Ireland Stone
This book is following the main character, Samantha McAllister, who to her friends looks like a popular junior who is just trying to desperately fit in but what they can't see is her neverending struggle with OCD. As Samantha tries to hide her OCD all while working on separating delusion from reality, she makes a new friend who she can confide in. Her friend introduces her to a secret poetry group where she meets Sam and begins to feel normal until she finds a new reason to question her sanity and all she holds dear...
