5 Annoying Things About Class That Every UGA Student Can Relate To

Well, here we are. Midterms are coming up, the semester is in full swing, and before we know it we will be praying out loud in the MLC during finals week. With that being said, I am sure that every UGA student can relate to a couple of these annoying factors that await us everyday during those dreaded classes.

1. Attendance.

Face it, everyone has days that they truly don’t feel good. Maybe taco Tuesday got the best of you or maybe those chewy vitamins you’re taking in the dorms just haven’t quite done the trick. Whatever the reason, classes that take attendance are annoying. Life gets in the way and I think I can speak for all of us when I say that sometimes you just feel like going home.

2. Tophat

I mean do I really have to continue? We are all aware of this terrible software. Teachers use it to post questions on a projector and normally use this as a way to check attendance. However, if the Internet is even the slightest bit slow, we face the consequence of either missing the question and therefore not receiving credit or suffering from a panic attack over the situation as a whole.

3. Counting every grade.

You know those glorious professors that drop your lowest test, homework, or quiz grade? Okay can we take a moment to appreciate them?....Thank you. Maybe that week you had other tests or things to study for or again, life just gets in the way and knowing that lower test score or homework assignment grade won’t exist around Christmas time is indeed a blessing. However, the pressure is on when those grades stay as they are and heaven help your soul if they aren’t where you want them to be.

4. Lecture Rooms of the MLC.

All right UGA students, we are all familiar with the large rooms filled with 200 plus students. For those of you who came from a very small high school, this is probably the most annoying. Unless you sit on the third row you probably cannot hear a thing. Also, bring your glasses to class because those projectors just aren’t big enough sometimes. Am I right? Or am I right?

5. Web Assign.

This dreadful software is used for most math and science classes. Anyone who has used web assign has most likely experienced glitches, its ability to load at snail speed, and entering in an answer that is right but getting it wrong because of the form of decimal or fraction that it was or wasn’t in. That could have been the homework you needed to be your grade booster, but beware of using ½ instead of 0.5.

I am warning you now my friends. There are plenty of other annoyances that go into college classes, yet I know I can speak for any and everyone that attends this incredible university when I say that walking outside of these classes and onto that beautiful campus makes it all worth it. These struggles remind us of how small they truly are after experiencing the thriving vibe that is present daily on Georgia’s campus. Push through these small hassles and how could I forget? Go Dawgs!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
