'Tis the season, ladies and gentlemen. It's that time of the year. The dreaded holidays... the dreaded long drives home, spending hours sitting still in traffic, and being surrounded by people who are oblivious to road rules. I love the holidays as much as the next person, don't get me wrong. I love spending time with my family, eating all that yummy food, and watching a Christmas movie or two.
What sucks the most for me though is that I'm from a town where all the snowbirds flock to. So for the weeks that I'm home, I want to rip all my hair out. The roads are full of snowbirds, college kids home on break, and the regular townies. It's a mess. You have people speeding, driving 70 MPH in a 45, and then you have those driving 40 MPH in a 45. Overall, it's just mass confusion (and chaos) and traffic stops all around. Now imagine all the impatient people weaving through all that traffic. It's terrifying, truly.
Here are 5 thoughts you've probably had making that long trek home (or just in general while driving).
Use! Your! Turn! Signal!
PLEASE. It's not that hard. Just one simple hand movement. Unless you want me to hit you, just give me a warning.
Stay. In. Your. Lane.
I'll honk the shit out of you if you get near me. At the very least, if you're a bad driver, you can do the bare minimum and stay within the lines.
Get off your phone.
Don't text and drive. Just don't. Also, it's really obvious when you are. Guess what? You're the only person driving 55 on the highway, swerving, and cars galore are passing you. Just pull over if it's that important.
Get off my ass.
If you really think I'm driving that slow, just go around me. I don't know why people risk not only themselves, but also others around them, when they ride another car. It's dangerous. And frankly, it's annoying and pisses people off.
Zooming in and out between cars.
Passing one car? Sure. Two? I get it. But if you're gonna spend a whole strip of the road just speeding in and around cars, please don't. Firstly, you're just asking to get pulled over by a cop. Secondly, it's as if you want someone to hit you.
