Turning twenty is a huge, adult-ish step in life. Eventually, you'll turn 21, and then 22, and then 23, and then 24, and then all of a sudden, you're thirty.

The decade that separates 20-year-olds and 30-year-olds is pretty much the most important decade of our lives. I mean, I'm only twenty myself, but it feels like a lot happens in this window: you go to college, you really figure out who you are, you meet your best friends, you graduate college, you start your career, you get married, you maybe have babies, grandparents pass away, life gets a little harder, you experience potentially two different presidents, you probably find your first gray hair, and you follow a few dreams. HOLY COW.

In this small window of time, we have the opportunity to begin and create the rest of our lives.

Along the way, we're going to need a lot of faith and a good amount of confidence. So, here are 43 ways you can be a confident 20-something-year-old who's embarking on the rest of his/her life:

1. Stop questioning yourself.

2. Drink coffee and get a lot of rest.

3. Get a job, even if it only pays $7.25.

4. Stop squeezing yourself into these picture perfect images.

5. Exercise regularly.

6. Keep yourself groomed.

7. Be willing to accept change.

8. Find the things that make you happy and keep doing them.

9. Set yourself up to win, not lose.

10. Stand up for yourself.

11. Make a list of everything that is negative in your life. And then remove those things from your life.

12. Buy clothes that you like and can afford.

13. Change a bad habit.

14. Stay prepared.

15. Be grateful.

16. ALWAYS listen to your gut.

17. Have good posture.

18. Be assertive when it's necessary.

19. Make your bed every day.

20. Be organized.

21. Set small goals.

22. Reflect on your accomplishments.

23. Live by principles.

24. Educate yourself every chance you get.

25. Love without fear.

26. Appreciate the journey.

27. Study. Really. Hard.

28. Take pictures and find 5 things you like about them.

29. Understand that you are equal to those around you.

30. STOP playing the victim.

31. Find your statement piece and rock it.

32. Be a badass, even if you're the only one who sees it.

33. Speak slowly, genuinely, and positively.

34. Listen to really good music.

35. Do something for someone else.

36. Stop looking back, you aren't going to find anything. MOVE FORWARD.

38. Don't dwell on the things you can't change, focus on the ones that you can.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
