Every morning, we are given the amazing gift of getting to live one more day. That’s one more day full of surprises, both good and bad. One more day filled with smiles, laughter, tears, worries, jobs and plans. It can be difficult at times to remind ourselves as we face uncertainty and shaky futures that every moment can be filled with joy, if we choose it. Every breath we take, every interaction we have, every thought we think can be a source of joy for us if we so choose. We can also add little habits to our days to bring even more joy-filled moments to our lives. Here are 40 ways you can find yourself either appreciating the joy you’re living in or creating your own joy out of the seemingly mundane.

  1. Smiling at someone as they walk by.
  2. Drinking the perfect cup of coffee.
  3. Saying good morning to your roommates or the first people you see.
  4. The smell of the air when you leave your house for the first time in the morning.
  5. Listening to your favorite feel-good song. Right now, my go-to is Rachel Platten’s “Stand by You” or Little Mix’s “Black Magic”.
  6. Reading a good book. Or, just read a few pages to relax your mind for a few minutes.
  7. Reading THE Good Book…aka the Bible. Our Good Father always knows what we need to hear or read.
  8. Pinteresting happy, optimistic, motivational quotes.
  9. Randomly texting a friend an uplifting message.
  10. Experiencing the wonderful smell of springtime flowers.
  11. Looking at pictures of cute puppies.
  12. Calling your mom or dad.
  13. FaceTiming your family.
  14. Watching a documentary about a topic that really interests you.
  15. Making and enjoying a really good smoothie.
  16. Walking outside after it rains.
  17. The feeling of your coziest, fuzziest socks.
  18. Wearing your comfiest outfit and lounging around.
  19. Pinteresting new hairstyles you’ll try one day.
  20. Actually wearing one of those new hairstyles.
  21. Wearing your cutest outfit.
  22. Pinteresting new recipes.
  23. Saying a quick prayer in your mind.
  24. Visiting a chapel.
  25. Looking up at the sky, whether it’s sunny, cloudy, rainy, or starry.
  26. Reading poetry.
  27. Snuggling up with your warmest blanket, hot chocolate and a book or Netflix.
  28. Cleaning and organizing your room.
  29. Thinking about how exciting the future is going to be (and not letting yourself worry about it).
  30. Telling someone you trust what’s really on your heart right now.
  31. Going out of your way to help someone, even if it just means holding a door open.
  32. Meditating on Bible verses or other Christian messages.
  33. Working out.
  34. Eating all the chocolate you want.
  35. Hugging your friends whenever you see them.
  36. Making a craft or DIY project.
  37. Planting or tending to flowers.
  38. Walking outside, just taking it all in.
  39. Being truly, fully present in every moment of the day.
  40. Looking yourself in the mirror, smiling, and reminding yourself (out loud) just how amazing and beautiful you are.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
