Moving away for the first time is always difficult! There are so many things you could forget. You don't want to be that freshman who forgets their towels and has to air dry next to their new roommate. Here are some things that are probably best to remember.

1. A Keurig, because by the end of the semester even noon classes get hard to wake up for.

2. Makeup so that you can cover the dark circles under your eyes

3. Comfy pillows and a mattress topper because when you take your third nap of the day, it better be great.

4. A Mirror just to check on the way out of the room that you don't look like the hobo you feel like.

5. A mug for your coffee.... or wine.

6. Paper towels for when you inevitably spill your wine...I mean coffee.

7. A bottle of wine for each day of the first week to get yourself acclimated to the college lifestyle.

8. Some cash for when you do find new friends to replenish the wine stash.

9. Plastic shot glasses so you don't have to sneak past our RA to clean your shot glasses

10. Frat shoes so you don't cry about getting frat juice on your Michael Kors wedges the first night

11. Speakers for when you're jamming to your favorite pre-game playlist

12. Band-aids for when your friends inevitably take a tumble walking home on a Saturday night

13. Advil for after the first night of partying

14. Condoms because you don't know know that guy's name from last night, let alone his sexual history

15. Extra blankets because when your friends get sexiled from their room they will be sleeping on your floor/in bed with you

16. Clothes for themed frat parties (mathletes and athletes, toga parties, work out bros and yoga hoes, etc.)

17. Some funky-fresh shower shoes so your feet don't get straight-up funky

18

. Shampoo so you don't go a week with greasy hair before you find the nearest drug store

19. A laundry basket so you don't have to carry your ~delicates~ all the way to the laundry room

20. Tide to go because Mom is no longer around to get that weird stain out of your favorite shirt

21. A steamer because you definitely didn't fold that shirt that now has tons of wrinkles

22. TWO sets of sheets because you definitely won't want to do laundry and change your sheets in the same day

23. Mattress protector/bed bug cover...just in case!

24. Tons of workout clothes so you can start everyday saying that you'll totally go to the gym after class

25. Rain boots because walking to class in soaked sneakers is uncomfy

26. Some cheap jewelry for when you find out your roommates sketchy friends stole grandma's pearls

27. Headphones for when you're ready to jam and your roommate is NOT

28. Something to put on your wall (tapestry, pictures, posters) so your room doesn't seem as boring and unwelcoming as you are

29. PJs because sleeping naked does not fly when you have a roommate

30. Plastic utensils/paper plates because there's no way you're going to wash your dishes....ever

31. Snacks/granola bars because you're definitely not waking up in time for breakfast at the dining hall

32. Easy-Mac so you can avoid the mush at the dining hall like the plague

33. Brita because you don't know what's in that water fountain water

34. Blanket for when you're feeling extra ~college~ and want to sit outside in the grass

35. A planner to get your life together once classes actually start

36. Maybe a notebook or two if you find taking notes/passing classes to be a priority in your life

37. Tissues to wipe away the tears when your professor says "12 pages due next week"

38. Calculator to calculate how well you need to do on the next exam in order to pass the semester... instead of actually studying

39. Backpack to ease the crippling load of schoolwork

40.

An external hard drive for when you load your computer up with pictures of you and your new best friends

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
