In college, without the judgmental eyes of parents and required attendance, it is very easy to skip class. Going into college as a freshman right now, I will make sure to avoid skipping a class without a good reason. Skipping classes wastes money and can damage your GPA. While academics should come first in college, a 4.0 GPA is not complete without these 4 “F” words! While keeping your F’s out of the classroom.
1. Food
This one is an obvious one. Besides not being able to study on an empty stomach, food just tastes good and is a part of everyone’s life. If you’re in a hurry and need a quick bite, a tropichop or burrito is perfect from Pollo Tropical. If you randomly miss France from a trip you took a year-and-a-half ago, grab a crepe, or if you want a show, hit up Benihana. No day is complete in the Wynwood Art District, without a street taco, which may impress Picasso himself. The options are endless and the self-fulfillment is real, so enjoy, and remember, food tastes better when great people are with you…
2. Friends
You can do anything with them! Especially eating. As the semester begins, we are being thrown into a new environment together, but friends make this transition easier. We make this our home away from home, and do many things with each other, from fantasy football to study groups.
3. Family
We have to live away from our family’s for the very first time, so it is very important to give them a call often, each day if possible. If you’re busy, try to at least send a text or a link to an interesting news piece. That’s what I plan on doing at least. I’m also lucky enough to have extended family about an hour north of campus between Ft. Lauderdale and Palm Beach. Even in a busy college lifestyle, I’d like to be able to see them on a regular basis. Communication with your parents and siblings is important because they miss you as much as you miss them.
4. Football
Saturday’s are for the boys who put on shoulder pads and helmets with the U logo on. Entire days revolve around the football game on weekends because it allows us to show pride in the place we all love. Is there a better way to celebrate than seeing the Canes win!
