We need to teach children that the most important thing in this world is kindness, and here is why...
It was a long day, my depression was at it's worst point and I was ready to just give up on everything. I wanted to quit my jobs, forget about all of my responsibilities, and lay in my bed until I withered away. Because I suffer from Major Depressive Disorder, I often have days like this, but that day seemed like it was the worst it would ever get.
I am glad that I finally got the motivation to go out and go to work. I love my job, but sometimes my depression likes to tell me otherwise. I was still having a hard time and was having several negative thoughts, but I knew going to work would make me feel better. I work with children of all ages and I start my evening out with four and five-year-olds... The funniest, most adorable children I have ever taught.
I went to work that day thinking the lowest of myself. My self-esteem was at an all-time low. I didn't care about myself at all. A little girl changed that for me. When I opened the door to let my little ballerina's in, one little girl came up to me with a paper in her hand and the biggest smile. She hands it to me and says "This is a picture of you in a princess dress because you are my special dance teacher!" After she gave the picture to me, she hugged me, gave me a kiss on the cheek, and went on with getting ready for her dance class. This four-year-old stitched together my incredibly broken spirit.
If I didn't have that boost of self-esteem, my bad day could have turned into an even worse day. This little girl saved my spirit and gave me a reason to keep going. That little face with those big, excited eyes will forever be embedded in my mind, heart, and soul. It is the utmost important thing to teach our future generation that a simple act of kindness can save someone. This is my story and I hope I can hear more stories with the same type of act of kindness.
