Ever since I was a little girl, my family and I always looked forward to the Olympics. Whether it were summer or winter, we would always keep the television throughout each day.
However, now that I’m in college and happen to not have my own TV, I tend to only catch snippets of certain events.
While many public places choose to play the Olympics on their TVs for customers to see, I happened to only be in these places at times when the most untraditional sports are being showcased. Having such limited access to the broadcast has shown me that many of the sports played throughout the Olympics are not commonly covered on television, therefore I’m quite unfamiliar with many of them.
Here are 4 sports that are only receive coverage during the Winter Olympics:
1. Biathlon
It may be a little weird to see an Olympic athlete competing with a gun strapped to their back, but combining the concepts of both skiing and shooting takes a lot of strength from athletes.
2. Curling
This sport is confusing to say the very least. From what I’ve seen, two teams of four players push a stone around an ice rink, and they really don’t do much else.
3. Bobsled
Had I known that sledding was more than just a fun activity from childhood, I may have taken more consideration into becoming an Olympic athlete.
4. Skeleton
Those who choose to compete in this event have to smush themselves in order to fit on a tiny sled, and somehow remain on the sled when it’s moving at 60 miles per hour. How does anyone do this? The world may never know.
