4 Times Herb Brooks Inspired Hockey Players and College Students

Recently, I re-watched the movie Miracle on Ice with my family and it's still glaringly obvious that Herb Brooks will forever be a legend. I've compiled my favorite quotes of his that inspire more than just hockey players. I personally feel that they relate to me, as a college student. Would've loved to have Brooks as a professor.

1. “Great moments are born from great opportunities.”

This quote is so important to me because college is what you make of it. You have to seize moments and create your own opportunities. Joining clubs, playing sports, whatever it may be, is all up to you.

2. “If you give 99 percent, you will make my job very easy.”

You have to give 100% or even more at times in order to truly succeed. You can't half ass a class, or an assignment, it makes it easy for professors to give you low grades and not want to help you come final grades being posted.

3. “This is your moment. You’re meant to be here.”

College is a choice. You choose to go to college, you pick the best place for you. College truly is your moment, so make sure you make the best of it. If you don't feel like you are meant to be at your school each and every day, you are at the wrong school.

4. “You don’t have enough talent to win on talent alone.”

College is hard. You don't always take classes you can get an easy A in. Being a good student, or being good at a certain subject won't be enough. You have to try all the time. It's more then being a good student in high school.

Great moments... are born from great opportunity. And that's what you have here, tonight, boys. That's what you've earned here tonight. One game. If we played 'em ten times, they might win nine. But not this game. Not tonight. Tonight, we skate with them. Tonight, we stay with them. And we shut them down because we can! Tonight, WE are the greatest hockey team in the world. You were born to be hockey players. Every one of you. And you were meant to be here tonight. This is your time. Their time is done. It's over. I'm sick and tired of hearing about what a great hockey team the Soviets have. Screw 'em. This is your time. Now go out there and take it.

Finally, this is the most famous quote Herb Brooks is known for. It inspires me because it shows me that anything is possible. This moment in history was something no one ever believed would be true. You can be the greatest _____, whatever you want to be. College is your time.

Herb Brooks will forever be missed and forever be an inspiration to many thanks to his unorthodox methods of coaching. The question is...do you believe in Miracles?

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
