Everyone wants to be happy. It's easy to get caught up in everyday life and forget to focus on the things that really bring us true happiness. In today's culture, we're constantly flooded with messages that tell us that happiness is possible "if only..." We're bombarded with the idea that if we change something about ourselves, we will find happiness.
The truth is, the more you change, the more you will find that you think you need to change. True happiness is only possible when we stop trying to fit societies mold and start learning how to appreciate all that we are and all that we have to offer the world. Here are 4 things I strive to focus on in my pursuit of happiness.
1. Perfectionism
No one is perfect. If we could all stop pretending that perfection is an ideal goal, it would make it a lot easier to accept ourselves and strive for progress as a means to feel good about our lives instead of faking perfection so that others can see what we’re pretending to be.
2. The Need for Approval
Again, no one is perfect. Not everyone will like you, and that’s okay. It doesn’t matter how many friends you have and no one should have to earn love. Love unconditionally and stick with the people who do the same for you.
3. Isolation
It’s human nature to crave connection. People are put into our lives for a reason so don’t rob yourself of the joy that comes with experiencing the presence of others. Let yourself be seen. You deserve to take up space.
4. Comparison
Once again, NO ONE IS PERFECT. By trying to live up to other people’s standards and by molding yourself just to fit what you think you should be, you will lose who you really are. Strive to be the best version of yourself and let go of the thought that you have to be just like everyone else to be accepted.
