So sometimes after college year is over, you hit a bump in the road. You just got home and you might have nothing to do. For me last year, this was the case. I was the first of my friends to come home and my brother was still at school, so for the first month of my summer vacation I was bored. I believe as college students that summer is a great time to have fun, get experience, and take classes we really want. Summer is definitely the time for us to spread our wings. Here are four things you could do this summer if you do not want to be bored.
- Find A Job
Yes, working over the summer helps build up a resume and helps you get experience. There are many places you could work over the summer. You could work at a summer camp, or at your local ice cream parlor. You can work at a restaurant and get tips. You can work in an area that is connected to your major or you can get a job that has to do with a hobby you like. You have choices; just make the choices that are right for you.
- Take Classes
This gives you the opportunity to take classes in subjects that you would otherwise not get to do because of the tight schedule that you have during the year. Do like photography? Well then, take a photography class! There are so many options, you might find a new-found love for something and then want to make it a minor when you return back to school. Also, it gives you a chance to interact with peers that you might not have had the chance to interact with during the normal school year, or if you are at a different school, you meet people that you might have never met before.
- Plan a vacation with family and/or friends
I do not know about you, but for as long as I can remember, my mom has been the one to plan all of our vacations. She chose where we went and when we went. Don’t get me wrong, my mom picked awesome places and we always had fun, but they were the same places on rotation every four years. I wanted to choose a place for once. So off of that a good idea is plan a vacation and present it to your family and/or friends. Find all the details, where you would be going, where would you be staying, like how long you would be there, and how much would the trip cost. If you are very practical, I believe that you might be on the vacation of your choice.
- Start up that hobby you really like.
It’s summer; you might have all the time in the world! Why don’t you spend it perfecting your skill? I love to cook and bake, so last summer when I was home alone I would cook and bake different dishes for dinner and dessert for my family. I like to say that after that summer, my culinary skills greatly improved. So if you really like doing something and it needs practice, I would take the summer to practice!
I hope this helped and gave you a number of ideas! Honestly, the summer is yours!
