Among many other Americans, and pretty much everyone in the world I am doing my best to stay in. Our normal, everyday, and routine lives have been ripped away from us, and we were forced to change. Some work from home, others do online school. Regardless of your situation, your daily life has changed as a result of COVID-19.
It took this virus to make me realize there are four things I really need in my life. Without these following things, I wouldn't be who am as a person.
Education
In the first week of March, I packed my bags and went home for spring break. I brought pretty much the bare minimum, and no school supplies aside from my laptop. Leaving school for break, the Coronavirus was more of a meme. All of us made fun of it and didn't take it seriously.
A few days before we would've returned back to school, we were informed that spring break would be extended another week. Woohoo! Another week without school. Then, the news progressively got worse. We were being moved to online classes, and we needed to move out of our residence halls at our earliest convenience.
We are now on our second week of online classes, and if we are being completely honest- I hate it. School has always been sort of a happy medium for me. I'm not some kind of amazing 4.0 GPA and 36 ACT score student, but at the same time, I don't hate going to school.
I don't want this paragraph to read like I take my education or college for granted, because I don't. However, I want to say I took class for granted. Real-life, face-to-face school. I want to take paper tests again. Sit in a lecture hall again. The best way I could put it into words is that I miss the experience of education. I've never wanted to actually go to school this bad. If we were to go back right now, I would never skip my 2 o'clock plant biology lecture again.
Sports
If you know me you know I am struggling with this one. Those opening-day celebrations across the city and the feel of the first day back at the ballpark are all things baseball fans won't get to experience this year. The return of baseball will definitely be different, but I hope it comes sooner rather than later.
I do love the NHL, and I eagerly await the return of hockey as well. But, with the Blues being the last to win the Stanley Cup, if the season doesn't resume do we get the 2020 Stanley Cup as well?
I don't watch NBA, but I do get into NCAA basketball this time of year. I'm missing the march madness tourney. Even the busted brackets.
Without sports, I realize that they consume my life. They are my main source of entertainment and I rely on them a lot. I find myself struggling sometimes to make conversation since sports left us. If I'm not talking about last night's shutout, or how the Cardinals still haven't signed Arenado literally what do I have to talk about?
Sports please come back! I'll never take you for granted again!
Friends and Family
This one is pretty simple. I miss my school friends and high school friends. I cannot see them right now because we are social distancing. I'm with my parents pretty much all the time, but I miss the other half of my family. My brother and sister-in-law are working while keeping themselves and my nephew safe. I miss that little guy! He is coming into his personality and he's so fun to be around.
Being away from everyone I love is tough, especially with my school friends being states away. We are all trying to do what is right and fight the pandemic at hand. I can't wait to see everyone as soon as this is over!
Relaxation
Before life came to a halt, I was always on the go. Having literally nothing else to do has given me time to watch Netflix, bake, and do simple relaxation activities I wouldn't otherwise have time for. Tiger King is a COVID-19 essential. And I am rewatching Gossip Girl for about the fifth time. So, thanks coronavirus for all the downtime.
