Some nights, carrying a bag is definitely the move. Usually when you are going to a date event or out in D.C. or if you have a cold and need to bring a pack of tissues. More often than not, though, lugging around a purse to post-games and after-hours just isn’t a thing, and becomes a hassle.
Instead, try and fit the essentials, and only the essentials, into something that you are going to take with you anyway: your phone case. Here are four things that I never leave home without and it always pays off in the end:
1. Student ID
At UMD, you can’t really get into any building without your Student ID. Don’t leave it at home! Between not being able to get into your dorm or house and not being eligible for free cover at Turf, you’re going to regret it.
2. Cash
I always think I can go out without money. But the truth of the matter is, there is always something you need to use it for. You either need to pay to get into a bar, pay the cab driver that has driven you from one satellite house to the next or pay the cashier at Slices for your mac & cheese pizza. Owing your friends money gets annoying, so just stuff a $20 bill in your phone case. It takes up minimal room and will be worth it, especially if you open the case up in the morning and see it still there.
3. Stick of gum
You never know where or when you will end up when you’re out. Wrigley’s spearmint or 5 Gum fit perfectly. If you think you’ll need more than one, just rip it in half when you need it the first time. It will be worth it when you aren’t freaking out that no one has a piece for you.
4. Room key
Depending on where you live, this one may or may not fit. I know for the dorms, it fits just fine if all you have are the things listed above. If you live in the Varsity, or anywhere that requires a “fob”, it probably won’t. Girls: If you fit into the latter, put a hair tie through the hole in the fob (or key) and loop it around so you can wear it on your wrist. Guys: you always have pockets, just put it in there.
