Saving money doesn't always have to be painful

It is a typical stereotype that college students are often broke and live off of ramen noodles. While to an extent, it is at least somewhat accurate, there are ways to save some money. Getting a job, or a second job, can certainly net you some basic income. However, here are some painless ways to save a few dollars each month:

1. Spotify

Spotify is one of several music streaming applications. You could settle for the free, yet more restrictive membership. If you hardly use the app, this could suffice for your needs. Spotify offers multiple premium memberships: family memberships (two-six people) cost $14.99 a month, personal memberships are $9.99 a month, and student, individual memberships are only $4.99 a month. A music app with no ads, unlimited skips, and more for only $4.99 a month? Who on earth could pass that up? I certainly couldn't. One of the perks of having a premium membership is being able to download music to your device and listening to songs even if the device is offline.

2. Apple Music

I am aware that I am talking about another music streaming service, but being a member of Team iPhone, it is just hard to avoid it. You can fill up your iTunes library from a YouTube to MP3 converter or purchase them directly from iTunes. If you knew how many songs are in my music library, you would see how it would become extremely expensive. I was delighted to learn about Apple Music. Like Spotify, you can download individual songs and playlists and pay a monthly fee for using the service, rather than pay per single song. Like Spotify, Apple Music also has a $9.99 a month subscription, as well as a $4.99 a month student subscription. I currently have memberships to Spotify and Apple Music. Some may say that it may be a waste of money, but I frequently utilize both services, so I do not feel that it is a waste.

3. Amazon Prime

Amazon is an utterly fantastic website. Anything that you can think of purchasing, I can almost guarantee that you will find it on Amazon. A regularly priced Amazon Prime membership costs $99.99 for one year. There was no way I was willing to pay that much for a membership that was so expensive. I eventually found an Amazon Prime membership for students where it was free for six months, and then the price would be $49.99 a year. It may seem a tad steep for some, but you do get six months free in the beginning. Two-day free shipping with Prime is super convenient

4. Best Buy

Best Buy will email student discount coupons on a regular basis. These coupons typically save you money on various models of laptops and computers with Windows and Mac operating systems. I have not redeemed any of these coupons for myself as of yet, but I know that there are coupons that will be useful to other college students.

There are more student discounts out there, but these are the four I use the most and have the most familiarity with. Happy saving!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
