I am a firm believer in setting goals for yourself. As a person who loves making lists, believes in the possibility of change, and loves the idea that every new year is a new start, I think New Year’s Resolutions are one of my favorite parts of the New Year. Here’s a list of reasons why.
- It gives you the opportunity to take stock of your life
It’s always important to slow down and take the time to think about what you’ve done, where you’ve been and where you’d like to go. The New Year is the perfect time to do that! It’s a great opportunity to stop and take the time to evaluate how you want to spend the next 365 days of your life, as well as to think about how you’ve been living your life up until this point.
- They give you a set goal to work on
If you don’t like the way you’ve been living your life, or you just realize that we can all do better, you can evaluate and set goals for yourself. When you do, you give yourself a sort of plan for the way you want your year to go and you can start pushing yourself to be the person you want to become.
- You motivate yourself to change
By deciding you the kind of person you want to be and setting goals for yourself, you push yourself more to become the person you want to become. It gives you a sense of purpose in life, and it makes you feel like you really can become the person that you want to be.
- Even if you don’t stick to it, you can go back to them throughout the year and evaluate the ways you did change.
Let’s face it. Throughout the year, you lose the motivation that you had at the
start. Things change, life starts to get crazy again, and sometimes, things can get a bit out of control. However, your list of resolutions would give you something to help you get back on the path you wanted to be on when the year started. It helps you to realize all that you wanted to accomplish when the year began, and can help you realize what you wanted at the beginning of the year. If you get a little lost, you can always go back to working on who you’d like to be, and you can always do better.
Not everyone sticks to their New Year’s Resolutions, but they can help you improve yourself and help you become more self aware. They’re important, nonetheless, and I believe everyone should take the opportunity to think about who they want to be in the new year.
