November is the time when the leaves change color, aroma of turkey fills the air, and you dream countless nights about mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. Many see this as the time of year to give back to the community, a time to reach out to those less fortunate, or show appreciation for loved ones more frequently as opposed to the rest of the year.

Giving back is an integral part of November, and to all other months of the year and there are numerous ways that everyone can get involved.

But why should someone specifically become friends with the person who volunteers year round?

These people are not only some of the most generous, welcoming, and understanding people that I have come to know, but also relate to the compassion of others as well. Here are the reasons as to why everyone should volunteer and become friends with someone else who does as well.

1. They know how to communicate effectively.

Most volunteer work involves working with other people or coordinating events and activities to help others. Communication is a crucial factor to make sure that every part ends in success. Your friendship will be filled with honesty and decent communication which will help you understand each other better.

2. They have incredible patience.

The person who volunteers, regardless of what they volunteer for, has patience. They can manage stressful situations, build strategies to fix them, and cares about what they are doing.

3. They don’t make excuses and know how to commit to something.

Commitment to volunteering is everything. Commitment in friendship is everything.

A volunteer is known and expected to be there to help out in the time that they agreed to. They won’t make excuses as to why they can’t attend an event or help for an hour. Since they understand the importance of commitment, they will always be there for you to. Volunteers realize that reliability is of utmost importance and will be sure to stick by your side when you need help too.

4. They are motivators and energizers.

People who volunteer willingly give up their time to help others, the environment, or the greater good itself. They are determined to make a difference and give their all into everything that they do.

Volunteers dedicate their time and energy to help others, and have the energy and drive to motivate others to accomplish their goals as well. These people will push you to try something new, and make you want to become more dedicated in your own endeavors.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
