5 Pros And Cons Of The Spring Season And All It Offers
Ales Krivec

Spring has not yet sprung, but I can’t wait until it does.

This is one of the freshest seasons we have. Yes, there may be a sense of freshness in every season, but spring stays fresh a lot longer than most. There is nothing better than opening up your window and breathing in the surrounding air and smelling spring, or opening your blinds and having your room brighten from the spring sun that’s sitting high in the sky. Spring instantly changes my mood and all of my peers' moods. It shows that school is almost over and summer is on the way. It is almost time to take a break from the endless nights of studying and transition to the endless warm nights of baseball games or pool parties. Here are a few things that stand out to me throughout this season.

1. Pro: Spring sports begin.

Personally, the sport that shows the beginning of Spring to me is baseball. Behind my house, there is a little league baseball field, and whenever I heard names being announced, parents cheering on their kids and the sounds of the ball hitting their bats, I knew it was spring. We all have that one sport that shows us what season it is; that spring sport is right around the corner if it hasn’t already started.

2. Pro: The smell of spring fills the air.

This one is easier to understand if you are from the north. After being in the south for spring, I realized that the scent of spring is nowhere near as strong as it is in the north. The aroma of blooming flowers and fresh air fills your nose as the sun pierces through the mist and fog letting you know it’s finally spring.

3. Pro: "Windows down, music up!"

Every time my friends and I get in a car, this is what we say. The spring makes this so much easier, because who wants to have the windows down in the dead of winter and be slapped in the face with freezing weather? Not me. When the sun is out and the temperature rises, drives are so much more fun, and people get instantly happy. It is very difficult to be upset while you are hanging out with your friends, your hair blowing in the warm breeze and as you are jamming to some throwback hits or the newest chart-topping songs.

4. Pro: The color illuminates your surroundings.

As the flowers bloom, you can see the atmosphere brighten, which adds another aspect of beauty to the gardens, streets, and schools that used to be dull. As I drive down my street, there are trees that line the street, and nothing feels more like spring than when those trees bud their little pink flowers. They beautifully cascade over the street so when you look around, all you can see is light pink flowers warming in the spring sun. Next time you are walking around in the spring, look at all of the flowers blooming and see how much more lively it is making your environment.

5. Con: Allergies

Whenever I ask someone what their least favorite part of spring is, there is not one person who doesn’t say allergies. As beautiful as the newly bloomed flowers are, they cause some of the worst results. Allergies cause horrible colds, and sadly, allergies hit the hardest in the spring. I am forever thankful for the people who have created allergy medicine. If I didn’t have Zyrtec, I wouldn’t be able to enjoy spring as much, since I’d be itching my eyes every second of the day. Unfortunately, pollen comes from trees, most if not all flowers and hides in the grass. There is no way to escape pollen--it is one of the many things we have to learn to live with.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
