As a server, I see the same faces weekly, and I wanted to know more about why people visit the same restaurant as opposed to going other places. I sat down with a bar regular to see the reason behind the madness.
Comfort
Going to the same restaurant gives regulars a sense of comfort outside of their homes. Going to new places requires research on customer reviews, the food, and drinks. But when you're already comfortable with that, it makes the eating-out process much easier.
Recognition
Going to a restaurant as a regular is like walking into a family reunion. The bartenders, servers, and managers all recognize you, and so do other customers/regulars in the restaurant. Knowing so many people at a certain restaurant make regulars just want to continue going. It makes it more entertaining every time they go back.
Family
Once you become a bar regular on a weekly basis, not only are you recognized by everyone, but the workers in the restaurant become a sort of second family to you. Fellow bar regulars become family too. Regulars can be a friend to someone who may not have family, or they can give advice to young adults trying to make their way in the world. In my personal experience as a server, two bar regulars became my life mentors/faux parents.
Know what you want
Bar regulars seriously get treatment like no other. Not only do bartenders have their regulars' drinks ready for them upon arrival, but they also tend to give regulars extra pours in their drinks as well (this only happens to those who tip well). Bartenders know the special ways regulars like their drinks, and they can order a regular's entrees without even asking. Regulars also get the opportunity to try new drinks the restaurant is working on, and they can get any custom-made meal of their choice (even if it's not on the menu).
