Procrastination is one of my biggest talents. Whenever I am faced with large tasks, important obligations, and huge commitments, I always seem to wait until the last minute to actually start said tasks. It is not that I don’t care about the things I need to do to be successful in life, it is just that I always find something I would rather be doing. Instead of completing my homework assignments, editing papers, or writing my Odyssey articles, I end up online shopping, sleeping, contemplating life, or watching the ever so necessary episode of that Netflix series. Here are four perfect ways to procrastinate your life, courtesy of the procrastination queen.
1. Take a nap
I did not discover the pure wonderment of a good nap until my stressful days of college. I never get enough sleep in the first place (probably because of said procrastination), so I don’t feel nearly as bad for deciding to nap when I have other things that I should be doing. Whenever I am crabby or stressed, I nap. If I am hungry, I nap. If I can’t think of a thesis for my paper, I nap. Napping is proven to improve your focus too, so it is almost like you are improving your work habits by napping anyways. We are all like five-year-olds, as a good nap solves everything.
2. Watch an episode of "The Office"
Now, you could pick any television show of your choosing off of Netflix. However, I feel that “The Office” is the best TV show for you to ignore life’s problems with. Its humor and weirdness makes the real world not seem as mean as it is. Not only is it a funny and entertaining way to waste 20 minutes, but one of the major plot-points of the show is that all of the characters are procrastinating their jobs with their various antics. Not only are you able to ignore your responsibilities with a highly entertaining television program, but you are introduced to millions of new ways to waste your life with every episode.
3. Online shop for something you don't need
Everyone loves to spend money; that’s America for you. What no better way to ignore your job where you earn your money then spend said money and stuff you don’t really need. I personally could spend a lot of time on Redbubble, Amazon, and Etsy if the world would let me. If you are feeling down about your homework, you can always buy a set of colored pens to make it seem more fun. If you are thinking, man, I really need this random machine to make my desk job easier while at the said job, go buy that machine. You are ultimately benefiting your own happiness from this, so there is no problem with a little online shopping as long as your wallet can handle it.
4. Complete a random act of kindness
This is my favorite method, as you are able to do something actually productive while still not doing the work you should actually be doing. I have a Random Acts of Kindness challenge that I try to complete every day, so if I don’t feel like doing school work, I’ll find a way where I can busy myself with doing something nice for someone. In the past I have filled an entire room with balloons for a friend’s birthday, I have delivered people kind notes and letters, and I have gone out to bring people treats while they are studying hard. Once you have completed one of these, studying seems a whole lot easier, and you finally feel like you are capable of getting your stuff done.
