Everyone has their own “look”. What I mean by that is everybody has their go to make up signature, whether it’s a bold lip, a smoky eye, or au naturel. What you wear and how you do your makeup in the morning reflects your mood for the day. In eighteenth century France, fashion which included the profusive use of wigs, beauty marks, and powdery makeup, were the superfluous statements of the time that not only expressed one’s wealth but their personality and current mood. This characteristic of the artistry of fashion has trickled down throughout history and today it is still being used to make statements. As an artist, I treat my face every morning as a blank canvas. An excessive amount of makeup and products, we all know, is too haughty and unreasonable for an everyday look. It’s finding the right balance of applying your makeup so that your accentuating your best features without looking overdone. These four looks are my personalized statements that highlight my best assets. Feel free to try out these looks and adjust them to suit your features!
THE UNTAMED MERMAID
This is a very bold look that relies on a colorful eye with a nude lip. To get the perfect wing I use the old-school technique of putting tape on the outer corners of my eye aligned with the arch of my eyebrow. I used a range of deep sparkly blues, mossy teals, and a hint of berry pink (Monaco) on the lash line with a golden hue lightly stroked over the lid.
To make my eyes even bigger and more dramatic I used a white eye pencil on my bottom eye waterline. I then smeared some of the blue eye shadow with it to make my eyes fiercer. I think it’s always important to make sure your face is balanced and that one area of your face doesn’t compete with another. Because this look has such a dramatic eye I went with no lip color. I got my messy hair look by fishtail braiding my DRY hair in the morning and by the end of the day it was wavy which I brushed out with a teased brush.
As for my outfit, I was going to a concert so I wanted to combine the wild party makeup look with a chic outfit. Any oversize sweater is an immediate go to with me and you can never go wrong with black high knee boots. These sunglasses have lately been one of my signatures. It accentuates my round face because of its winged edges.
SWEET & SULTRY
This dewy makeup look is perfect for cozy cafes and long study days. The main key for this look is the Maybelline Color Tattoo Bad to the Bronze eyeshadow.
It’s a shiny bronze color that you apply using your finger over your entire eyelid. It has a matte look to it, but you are still able to blend other colors with it. Speaking of, I then used the Naked Urban Decay Palette, to blend the colors buck and smog into the crease of my eye. I also used, obviously my favorite color, half baked on the center of my eye lid for some definition.
For the lips, I went with a light pink. This has been my favorite color lately because it practically goes with any outfit. It is the color A Touch of Pink from Elf.
PINKY PERFECTION
This is the best everyday look. I have found that light pink has always looked good on my fair skin. It brings an au naturel and romantic tone to my visage. I used the Too Faced a la mode eye palette. I covered my entire eyelid with the cherry blossom pink color. In the crease, I put the burnt orange Cannes color. For a pop, I added Monaco on the outer corners of my eye.
For this look it’s really important to highlight my face, such as my upper cheek bones and bridge of my nose. I actually used the eye shadow color La croisette to achieve that! Always be experimental with how you apply your makeup and what you use. Lastly for my cheeks I used the mineral fusion 3-in-1 color stick. You can also dab some of this on your lips to add a light color.
And if you’re wondering I’m wearing on my nails the color spiked punch from Urban Outfitters.
The Too Faced sparkle powder is another good way to highlight your face, giving it that glow and dewy look!
CHIC SOPHISTICATION
For this bold yet glamorous look, I went with a strong lip. I’m one of those people who is never able to use just one lip color. This color is a mixture of three. First I used Revlon’s Color Stay Moisture Stain in the color Stockholm Chic. The applicator is a brush so I lightly rubbed this color onto my lips. Afterwards I usually dab some of the excess off. I then used Elf’s Red Hot Reds and finished with the color Scarlett.
As for my eyes, I lightly lined my upper eyelid with black eyeliner. I then smeared it in with a brush which emphasizes my green eyes, and viola you are done!
Another secret of mine to get glowy skin is to use this cleansing oil. I rub it into my skin with circular motions, leaving it on for a minute, and then washing it off with warm water. It revives your skin and gives you an energized glow!
Have fun!
