31 Scary Movies For October

October is the best time to watch scary movies and stay inside with a buddy or by yourself. But you know if you're by yourself you're going to need a pillow and a blanket -- to hide your face at the REALLY SCARY parts! And if you're anything like me, you hide your face often, making you miss the important parts.

1. Thirteen Ghosts

This movie came out in 2001 and is a remake of the 1960 film 13 Ghosts.

2. The Shining

The Shining was released in the US in May 1980 and the UK in November 1980. This chilling movie featuring Jack Nicholson is widely regarded as one of the greatest horror films ever made.

3. The Conjuring

The first film was released in 2013. The second movie was released this year. By the way, this movie is based on the true story of Ed and Lorraine Warren who were the ones that conducted the investigation. They're actually best known for their involvement in the 1979 Amityville Horror case!

4. Oculus

The Oculus was released in 2013 as an American supernatural psychological horror film.

5. The Babadook

This movie was released in 2014, though I never heard of it going to theater. I watched this a while ago on Netflix and didn’t know if it was going to be scary or not because the icon for the movie had me asking a lot of questions! Well, it was scary needless to say and my questions were answered.

6. Nightmare On Elm Street

This movie is a 1984 American supernatural slasher film. And of course if you don't already know, this film features Freddy Krueger.

7. We Are Still Here

Released in 2015 and is available to watch on Netflix.

8. 28 Days Later

This is a 2002 British post-apocalyptic horror film. The film is credited with reinventing the zombie genre of horror film.

9. 28 Weeks Later

The sequel to 28 Days Later released in 2007.

10. The Exorcist

This "classic" horror film was released in 1973. Only the brave will watch the original. I've seen two short scenes in my life and they scarred me pretty good.

11. The Omen

The original from 1976 because nothing beats a classic horror film. Then AFTER that watch the newer one which came out 6-6-06.

12. Silent Hill (the movie)

Released in 2006 and based of the video game.

13. Saw (all of them)

The first movie was released in 2004. The Final Chapter was released in 2010 and it's rumored that they're making a Saw : Legacy to be released in 2017. Literally all of them are terribly gory. But if you don't like creepy dolls riding a little kids bike, I suggest…you still watch it because it's worth it.

14. The Rite

Released in 2011 this film is based on Matt Baglio's book The Rite: The Making of a Modern Exorcist which is based on real events as whitnessed by then-exorcist-in-training Father Gary Thomas.

15. Devil

Released in 2010 and about 90% of this movie takes place in an elevator. So, if you have a legit fear of getting stuck on a elevator, don't watch this.

16. The Children of the Corn

This classic horror film was released in 1997 after Stephen King's short story.

17. Hellraiser

The original was released in 1987. So, I watched all of these as a child like five to eight years-old. So trust me, you can handle it as an adult.

18. Halloween

This classic was released in 1987. They made 10 of these movies, all different directors. I think a lot of people think of the original and the 2007 and 2009 movie directed by Rob Zombie.

19. Sleepy Hollow

Must watch, classic movie from 1999. And it has Jonny Depp, so you know you have to watch it.

20. Fright Night

Watch the original from 1985. The new one is okay but the original is the best.

21. The Amityville Horror

Okay, so for this one watch the original because it kind of gives you more of a back story. Then watch the newer one with Ryan Reynolds.

The original was released in 1979 and the newer one was released in 2013.

22. Night of the Living Dead

There were two of these made, one in 1968 and one in 1990. I recommend both.

23. Scream

Just go ahead and watch all of these! I watched them as a kid.. Oops.

24. Paranormal Activity

Why not watch these movies? I mean, they're done in reverse so you can watch them the way they came out or backwards.

25. The Grudge

Ok these are scary because there are things that pop out at you without your knowledge!

26. The Ring

It's not really scary but it'll keep your attention. I mean if you think someone is going to crawl out of your TV later because you watched the video in the movie that the characters aren't supposed to watch, then don’t watch it.

27. The Cabin in the Woods

Released in 2012. If you haven't seen this yet, it's not what you think it is. Trust me.

28. Sinister

The first film was released in 2012 and the sequal in 2015.

29. Dead Silence

Released in 2007. This film is seriously spooky! If you have a legit fear/phobia of creepy dolls, don’t watch this.

30. Dark Skies

Released in 2013 as an American science fiction horror film.

31. American Psycho

Don't confuse this with "Psycho". American Psycho is a novel by Bret Easton Ellis published in 1992. The film, staring Christian Bale, was released in 2000.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
