30 Things I Learned In Australia

1. Life is too short to live in fear.

2. Life is too short not to enjoy the life you're living, the body you've been blessed with, and the people God has put in your life.

3. Be thankful. Always. No matter the circumstance.

4. Life is way more than what your hair, makeup, or clothes look like.

5. Beauty is found everywhere, you just have to be open to accepting it in all of its forms.

6. You need to take care of your mental health.

7. Be courageous and outspoken.

8. Eat. Eat well. Eat what you want. Screw "diet rules."

9. Exercise! But don't do exercise that you hate. Find something you enjoy doing.

10. Traveling is confusing and hectic but that's all part of the experience. It makes the peace more enjoyable.

11. (Aside from the cost of the trip) you don't need to spend a fortune.

12. Worldwide, we are all very similar in a sense. We all long to be loved, understood and respected.

13. Embrace other cultures. They are beautiful. But also, be proud of your own.

14. Be polite and have good manners. You'll make more friends that way. (And people will have a lot more respect for you).

15. Really get to know people. Not half-heartedly.

16. Do the thing that scares you that you've always wanted to do.

17. Spend time with yourself in the peace and quiet. Reflect on your scenery.

18. Trade in anger for wisdom.

19. Download relaxing music that makes you feel at peace.

20. Remember travel plane pillows. They are important.

21. Slow down and take life as it comes. You don't have to rush.

22. Love people. Really love them to death. Take the way you love to your grave. Make it your identity.

23. Take a lot of pictures. They will serve you well.

24. Always bring more underwear.

25. Buy a transportable phone charger that doesn't require an outlet.

26. Grow a big heart, as opposed to a big mind.

27. Take care of others before yourself and I promise you'll have a sense of compassion so big, you'll be able to take care of yourself.

28. Don't work your life away. When you're on your deathbed, you won't reminisce on how much money you've made, rather, your experiences.

29. Listen and respect your elders. Cherish them because they don't have long. (No matter how grumpy they are).

30. If you do your best to not step on anyone's feet, you're still going to step on feet. Be yourself, and have opinions.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
