It's your first day of freshman year and you're absolutely terrified. It's the first time you've been away from home besides church camp. You don't know anyone except your unit. You know you were intelligent in high school, but are scared that college isn't for you and you won't succeed. As a second semester junior that's graduating in senior, let me give you some advice:
1. There's nothing wrong with staying in.
2. You will get your first "bad" grade. Don't stress over it.
3. High school friends come and go.
4. Worry less about the future.
5. It's never too late to find your passion.
6. Don't let someone tell you that you can't do it, especially a guy.
7. The freshman 15 isn't a myth.
8. You will cry and it's okay.
9. It will be hard.
10. Call your family, often.
11. Things will not go as planned.
12. You will be homesick.
13. Make the most of your visits home.
14. You might change your mind.
15. You will feel like giving up.
16. You will feel overwhelmed.
17. Do NOT give into those feelings.
18. You will need rainboots.
19. Do what makes YOU happy.
20. Fire alarms will go off at the worst times.
21. People will know you're a freshman even though you try to hide it.
22. You'll get tired of the food, very quickly.
23. Manage your time wisely.
24. Take advantage of your registration date and your advisor.
25. Keep your dorm door open as much as possible. It'll be how you make the most friends.
26. Cherish the friendships you had in high school.
27. Get to know your professors.
28. You and your roommate will not be best friends (most likely) and that's okay.
29. Join a club or two. Get involved.
30. Enjoy it. It WILL fly by.
I didn't believe anyone when they told me that each year only gets faster and faster. Here I am, I second semester junior who is graduating in December and I fell like I started freshman year yesterday. Enjoy every moment you can.
