I have learned over the past few years that remaining positive in a negative situation will almost always make the situation better. With this said, it is not easy to remain positive in a terrible situation. It takes a lot of practice, patience, and rational thinking. However, it certainly is possible! Without further ado, here are three ways you can remain positive even in the most negative situations!
1.) Understand That Negativity Won't Make the Situation Any Better
The first piece of advice I can offer is to realize that complaining or pouting will NOT make the situation any better. No matter how many times you curse or throw a fit, the situation will not automatically become better. However, taking some time to think about the situation and burning off some steam is certainly a good idea. One way to do this is to take a break and relax. You can decide what the next step is to overcome any obstacles. You can also do something that will help you relieve stress, such as exercise, or even crying, if that is a coping mechanism that helps you.
2.) Realize That the Issue Will Be Solved
No matter the situation, or the issue, remember that you will get through it and become even stronger. My motto is, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Although it may be hard when you're in the rough of the situation, you WILL get through it, and you will be a stronger person because of that situation. One way I can relate to this is with school. Through all of the tests, homework, and responsibilities, I have to remind myself that it will all be worth it in the end, even if it may be tough at the moment.
3.) Someone Else Has Been There
Whether it be school, a fight with a significant other or friend, or a tough time figuring out what your calling is in life, it is important to remember that others have been in your difficult position. I guarantee you that there is somebody in your life who can relate to you and would be honored to give you a hand. While we may feel like our situation is unique in the moment, it is more than likely that many of our peers have experienced similar problems in their lives. Remember, asking for help reveals strength, not weakness.
I hope these three pieces of advice help you next time you are in a rut. If you feel at all helpless or stressed in whatever situation you are in, remember to take a breather, realize that you will get through this, and ask someone for help. You are well on your way to achieving great things!
